Just out of curiosity how long was it from your CT to your surgery approximately?  I just got the call for my scan so I'm curious.

Hi

I am in the WW program.  I just had my CT scan and it will depend on the results of your CT scan whether or not the surgeon will sign off on your surgery.

I see we have the same surgeon.  I have not actually met him, but rather one of his interns(?)  Did you meet him personally?

Well I am having a ct scan to see how much fat is around my liver...apparently they will put me on a liquid diet according to the reults.  I amnot from Edmonton.  I am from a small town east of Edmonton near Wainwright.  Feel free to ask me whatever:)

I never had to have a CT (I have too much metal in my knee) and basically I got approved right away....

Hi,

Yup Dr. Birch is my surgeon and yes I have met with him.  He was really nice and explained all the surgeries to me and my husband.  He made me feel really relaxed.

So the reason Dr Birch sent me to get a CT scan was because some people (especially super obese people(ME) and people with a large amount of belly fat(ME)) can have extremely large, fatty livers.  During surgery they move the liver to the side (to work on the stomach) and when the liver is extremely large and or fatty it can crack and bleed.  This can cause the surgery time to go from 1.5 hours up to 4-5 hours or they can not even do the surgery.  So they would like to know the size of my liver before surgery.

By the way the CT Scan was easy.  There was no wait,  the ladies were really nice and I was done before my appointment was even suppose to start.  I did not even need the dye which was a big relief!  I was worried about the weight limit but they told me the machine would hold up to 700 lbs.

My nurse emailed me to let me know that Dr. Birch reviewed the results and found my liver to be unremarkable which is apparently good.  I see him again on April 26th and I am hoping he will let me see the scan!
