"Why do you need THAT when you've come this far??"I joined Weight Wsie in June for the reinforcement of tools needed for my successful life change and when I mention to anyone I am in a bariatric clinic for wieght management I get the same line over and over " Why do you need surgery?" ( not that surgery is the only option)

Where are the people that are supportative of whatever decision I make? Makes me upset sometimes to have to explain MY decisions. Most of the time it's the thinner people that haven't a reason to worry about their weight or those friends that are now bigger than me and are having a hard time adjusting to being the bigger friend. I had to deal with being overweight for 20-yrs. It's my time to shine as I feel bloody super!!

I was pro-lapband as of last week and looking at my longterm goals , have realized I am leaning more to the gastric sleeve. I'm almost 31 and my kids will be 5 and 1 in June. Yes, I have lost 80lbs on my own but I'm still worthy of surgery and I have 1000000000% support with my family.

Any insights on the sleeve or lapband would be super from someone that has had it-- how do you feel after? rapidness of weightloss? body changes? etc- any personal feedback would be great.

Thanks a bunch and here's to the start of another wonderful week--- crappy weather and all!! :)

I hear ya...I got that too...and you are so right it is YOUR DECISION!  I remember at the Clinic them telling me yeah you can lose the weight but the chances of keeping it off would be another...and hence 5 days ago I had the gastric sleeve!  I don't regret my decision at all and I'm glad I didn't listen to the nay sayers.
Right after surgery it felt like doing a 1000 situps...today it only feels like 500 but moving helps.
My nurse at WW was real helpful in my decision about the sleeve.
Anyways I hope this helps some what.
Take care.

The only regret I have about my surgery is the fact that I told people.

Seriously, I really wish I had kept it a complete secret.   I did NOT anticipate the reactions that I would recieve and i believe me being so open about things has alienated me from my coworkers, family, and even some of my friends.

One thing I recommend, is plan what you are going to say to people so when they ask questions, you are prepared.

I had a sleeve a month ago, and so far I am loving it. I also lost a signifigant amount of weight within 2 years pre-op.  I have no desire to ever put that weight back on, and still have quite a bit of weight to lose... and for once, with my new tummy, I know this time I will succeed.

I talk to a lot of people when I'm waiting at the WeightWise clinic, and I hear a LOT of horror stories about the lapband...  either it slipping, needing to be removed, or else people having no weight loss from it. I'm very glad I chose the sleeve, and I've never met a sleeve patient *****gretted having it done.

I can see a lot of changes with my body already. Food is smelling different. My tastes are changing. I never used to like tuna, but now I adore it. I feel good so far, but slightly more emotional I think. My body is still adjusting to the lower calorie diet and the weight loss releases hormones stored in the fat cells, so I think that may be the culprit.... overall though, I don't regret my decision at all.

oops... posted under my wifes account.
Here goes...
I was also leaning towards a lap band procedure, but the more I investigated the sleeve became more appealing. My life style consists of a lot of travel. I spend 5 months in BC, 5 months in Tex/Mex and a few months in Alaska and Europe. Getting fills would be a nite mare for me. And then when I did find a doc that would do fills and adjustments locally in BC... we decide we might sell the house and move to Ontario.
I guess if your in one place all the time the band adjustments will be ok. I found that a lot of docs don't want to adjust other surgeons bands.
That's my thoughts anyways.
Heading down to Mexico in 2 weeks for surgery. I'm a self pay patient.
Good Luck
