Has anyone from the Weight Wise Clinic had to have a CT Scan of their liver pre surgery?  If so would you mind sharing your experience with me?  Thanks

Sorry...can't help you....never had to have one..

I am thinking, maybe surgeons are finding that peoples liver has a lot of fat around it (more than they expect)..it could be just so they know what they are dealing with when the see inside of you. With laproscopy surgery, they only work with cameras ....

Dr. Birch said that some people (especially super obese people( ME) and people with a large amount of belly fat( ME)) have extremely large, fatty livers.  During surgery they move the liver to the side (to work on the stomach) and when the liver is extremely large and or fatty it can crack and bleed.  This can cause the surgery time to go from 1.5 hours up to 4-5 hours or they can not even do the surgery.  :(  So they would like to know the size of my liver before surgery.

I love that they are taking the time to do the pre test and helping me to shrink my liver.  I find everyone at the clinic to be so kind and informative.

I have just never had a CT Scan before & they are apparently going to inject me with some sort of dye...

So I was just hoping someone in the form had done the scan & would share their experince.  Once I have the scan I will let you guys know how things go.

Hi
They will inject a contrast dye into an IV site they will start when you get there.  Then I beleive it is just a point of lying on the table and the cylinder shape (at least the one I have seen) will take the pictures they need.  Other than the iv start it should be pretty painless.  Kinda like the bone scan.  It shouldn't take much longer than the bone scan either.
I haven't had one myself but have accompained some patients to one.  Where are you having it done.
Good luck with everything and let us know how you made out.

I haven't had a CT scan for my liver. but they did ask me to do the liquid diet. Im having surgery on April 6th.. Dr Birch said that maybe it could help.. They have pis of my liver from a gull bladder surgery I had in 2008.

so IM sure he looked at it.  As for the people at WW.. They are amazing. Im sure you couldnt do what they do if they didnt like their job. I have never really had an issue. ( only thing I have ever said) was Dr Sharma. talks way too fast. LOL

I look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Thanks for the info!  I was really nervous but the CT Scan was easy.  There was no wait,  the ladies were really nice and I was done before my appointment was even suppose to start.  I did not even need the dye which was a big relief!  I was worried about the weight limit but they told me the machine would hold up to 700 lbs.

Dr Birch said my liver is unremarkable...which the nurse told me is good.  Yippy!
