Will they want to do surgery or have me continue on my own?

I had my first appt at the Royal Alex on August 6th/09. Since then I have dropped 75 lbs through a calorie reduced /healthier & more active lifestyle. Losing weight this time around has been extremely easy for me and I owe it all to food journalling and trying new things outside my comfort zone but I'm still wanting the surgery - lapband is my first option.
I have a long way to go yet and I'm curious if when I get to see the doctor next month they are going to say I don't need surgery and can continue on my own. Has this happened to anyone?
I can't say I won't be surprised or disappointed but I don't know what the qaulifications are like and I can't be in the program forever.

they say that they go on your acceptance weight.  but the qualifications are either a bmi over 40 or a bmi of 35 with comorbiditeis.  Have you seen a surgeon?

Well my BMI is still 45. I'm 252 @5'2" so I'm still high in ranking on that.

I am nearing the end of my tie with the program. I see my RN, dietitian and doc next month. My RN, Corey says he'll be signing me off and once I meet with the doc, I'll get an appt to see a surgeon.

I'm really not sure what to expect after that. I know there is the chance that I get a NO to lapband and that they may suggest something else. I also know that they may ask me to revisit the surgery option in a yr and see what my weightloss and mantainence would be in that time frame.

I have lost 18% of my body weight in 5 months. I am not the norm in the program and have been told this. I was asked to loss 5-10% over a 6 month period and then maintain that weight for another 6 months. I wasn't expecting the weight to just "fall off".

Just nervous and scared to see what kind of fork in the road I'm going to come across.
I'm excited to meet a surgeon though and get their thoughts. I'm 25 lbs from 100 gone myself and I hate that others think I am giving up and getting the "easy way out " but it's not like that and extremely hard to convince others. I'm wanting to do what is best for me and my family and any feedback would be super!!

Thanks:)

congrats on the loss so far!  chances of being approved for surgery are still quite high as you still meet the qualifications.  I started the program with a bmi of 45. I was approved for surgery in sept 09. my surgery was 2 weeks ago and i had surgery at a bmi of 40.6. i have lost a total of 43.6lbs since the start of my journey and now have a bmi of 38.1

Hello

I started the program at 278.....surgery I was 241....I had the option of all three surgeries....RNY is the one I choose...didn't want the bother of a lapband...

So, yes they will more than likely still do surgery.

Why did you go with the RNY over the lap band or the third choice.

the reason that i chose the rny is because it is the cadillac of the surgeries, and has the best overall weight loss in the long term.  I didn't go with the band because i didn't want to have to worry about the fills.  i didn't do the sleeve because there just wasn't enough history behind it.
