Alberta Health Care Payment

Can anyone tell me if Alberta Health Care will pay for bariatric surgery out of the province or out of the country, and if so how much?  I am having trouble getting a straight answer from them.

I forget offhand how much they will pay, I do know that it's not much. You'd be better off having surgery here in Canada.

yes they WILL pay what ends up being part of it. They pay the surgeon's fees, the anaesthestist fees, the hospital etc, which she told me ends up avaeraging around $1,500. But it must be done in a hospital. Out of province or out of country doesn't matter, the top price paid is what Alberta's rates are. I was going to go to Ontario for a $16,000 lapband, but after lots of research am booked this feb 23 in Tijuana for $6,000. Surgeon is in a hospital and is a Fellow of the American college of Surgeons (FACS), which if you research their criteria, is comforting high standards.
Anyways, heard it directly from AHC that they do pay part, just get the receipt and it takes about 5 weeks to get it back, plus some people get tax credits too.

I started out myself trying to figure out how to raise the funds to go to Ontario for the band($16,000)-They do it in Alberta, but it's quite a long wait...then seen it is done in Mexico and at first scoffed---- But the more i researched , the more impressed I became. There are world class highly experienced and ligit surgeons there. I'm paying $5,900 for an all inclusive package. The only other expense for me is my flights. AND they pick me up at the San Diego airport , supply me with a 5star hotel, and will escort me back when it's time. I'm using Dr.Corvala. There's also a Dr.Ortiz who was on Oprah and wrote a book on it, and another younger but very talented and respected lady at the Limarp clinic(she's about $4,850 as a Feb sale right now). ALL are Fellows (or Associate Fellow as she is) of the American College of Surgeons, which is a worldwide highly esteemed quality control system. Dr.Ortiz is in his own clinic too, which is very above average.
