Questions for the ladies.

Mostly I guess this post is more related to the woman on the forum.

I had been diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovary Symdrome about a year ago.  Another reason why I wanted to get into the weight wise program.  My concern is that since december my store insulin level in my pancreas have been very elevated and now my doctor is concerned that I may be becoming a type 2 diabetic. I am so scared. Pcos is bad enough on its own but to be diabetic on top of it isn't good.
My next step is to see an endocrinologist.
My question is has anyone else experience pcos and the insulin resistance before surgery and what were the out comes after surgery? Have any member had fertility troubles that were resolved by weight lost surgery? Have any forum members had babies after their surgery?

Hi KeeLan

I am still waiting for surgery so I can't say personally that my fertility issues have been resolved, however, I have a friend that underwent VSG in Mexico and has since had a successful pregnancy. She had previously suffered PCOS and had three miscarriages in five years.

She was however advised to wait three years after surgery before trying to become pregnant. The doctors said that her body had undergone a massive change after the surgery and it needed time to heal, and time to have a significant loss.

Hope the info helps. I see you are from Edson - I'm from Hinton. Nice to have someone from my corner of the province!

Hi Keelan
I had surgrey Dec 2 ,2009 and had all the issues that you have. I,m down 55 lbs and feeling good. I'm off metformine for the insuline resitance and the PCOS  we are still working on. It was the best choice that I've made to date. I was unable to become pregant but I've gone on.
Best of luck and look toward the furture to a better healther life.

I also  have PCOS and reallllly want to have children. My surgery is only 3 days away now.... I've lost quite a bit of weight on my own, but it's taken a long time and a lot of hard work.  I also no longer need metformin, unless I'm trying to conceive (which is on hiatus til after my surgery and weight loss stabilizes).  I was originally going to get a bypass, but I changed my mind recently and had the operation changed to the sleeve... mainly so that I don't have the risk of having a malnourished fetus.  The doctors have told me losing more weight should make me more fertile, so I'm really hoping in a couple years I'll be healthy enough to concieve and have a healthy baby :)

I wish you luck in your journey!

Wow thats so awesome that you are off the metformin, I am so looking forward to the day that I no longer need it. It is so hard on the stomach and everytime they change my dosage I get really sick for about 7 days.
I'm in the programs since July and my next appts is in April and I will be seeing the surgicial team for the first time since seeing Dr Sharma, I'm quite excitied to see where this will go. I so hope after 15 years of beign obese that I will be able to get the surgery and get healthy.
Keep me up to date about your surgery and how it goes. I'm interested in the sleve as well but I haven't spoke to anyone who has had it done.
Congrats on making it to your surgery date and  I wish you continued success.

if you are able to .. you should try to come to the support meeting here in edmonton on THURS. There are several people who have had the sleve.. that you can talk to.

I so wish that I lived closer to the city so that I would be able to take part in the support groups that they have. I live about 3 hours away and with my work schedule it's hard to get in there. I kow of 3 peole where I live going through this process and like myself we are all kinda quite about it. I have kept it from my family and friends thus far and maybe once I have a surgery date i'll tell them but maybe not.
I love this board and I thank you all for your support.
