i"m curious why the need for all these protein supplements ive hear of? a little niave i know, my consult is tuesday! i get that for the liquid weeks and purred weeks that you would need a supplement for shakes or water etc..
but following that wouldn't the goal be gettin the nutrients we need in food?
i agree with something i read recently to abou "what's with people trying fries at mcdonalds?? or worried about pop? we are trying to CHANGE our lives here!! so food for hunger and nutricional values only not comfort or entertainment..that's waht got some of us into this mess!
hopefully after i see the dietician and doctor tues i'll have a better grasp of all the needs following the surgery,
do the protein powders have good shelf life? should i start buying things now in preparation?

Hey Trapped

I don't go on this site very often any more but feel free to read my blog. I had surgery with Dr. Nohr on March 16, 2009 after a wait of over 5 years and I'm currently down 112 lbs and have been very happy with my results so far but have some worries about reverting back to my old self but I think that  is kind of a good thing as it will keep me from making bad choices.  ( I hope)

Don't do anything to your diet until you see Dr. Nohr. He told me not to do anything before surgery as he wants our emune systems at top form so we recover from surgery quickly. I did stop the pop and fast food 3 months prior to surgery as I had a huge issue with both of these.

As for protein after surgery, that is my one problem area. Just after surgery and for the first 6 months I was on protein shakes but as I healled and could tolerate more and more foods I dropped taking them and my last blood test says my levels are low so it is very important and if you don't take enough protein in you can feel weak, tired and hungry.

I hope my blog is helpful and gives you a insight of what you can expect.

Good luck on your journey and I'll save you a seat on the losers bench!

Cheers
Kelly

I like the chocolate flavor of Whey Burst from GNC. It is about 40.00 for a large container and mixes ok in milk, as long as you shake it. Stirring it in take for ever. I've tried their fruit flavors which kind of tasted like a cremcycle but I got tired of those pretty quickly. The chocolate tastes like a rich chocolate milk but I dont really like the smell so I drink it pretty quickly. Hope this helps.

Hello

Although I get a lot of my protein from food, I still have a protein Chai Tea (my recipe) in the morning and a protein shake at night...

We tend to absorb the shakes/drinks better than food protein.
