                              the OT person....
                             and seeing the doctor.

Hi Sarah

My first appointment with WW was in July 2007....but back then there were no modules I had to take.  You have a "few hoops" to jump through for about a year...first you need to lose at least 10% of your weight....journal everything you eat and do...wear a pedometer...see your nurse and dietician regularily...and others if you are told to...(psychologist, OT, or PT)...

I know it seems forever but the best thing is...you are IN!!!!  Do as they say and you will be closer to the losing side.

I had my surgery on May 19, 2009....I had a small lapse at the WW of a few months...just wanting to give up and had a horrible psychologist who I didn't like...but my nurse and dietician convinced me to come back into the program...that was in January 2009...when I was finally referred to Dr Birch in March 2009....things progressed very quickly.

So...I am saying, things seem fast now, but you will have to do "your time" in WW...I am saying probably 9 months to a year in the program...then surgery will most likely be the next step.

I was referred to the weight wise program in April 2008 and had my first appointment in June 2009. I have had the bone density and blood work done and have been to 3 appointment since. The worst part now is that there is such a long wait between appointment. My last appointment was in November and my next one is February 17, there is an 11 week difference between them and I feel like this is too long of a wait.
When I started the program I was told the program is a 9 month program and depending on your acheivements and statbility with the program it would be after that you could be referred to see the surgoeons and their teams. The wait is different for everyone.
The Doctor you will see will ask you a bunch of question, some that you may find embrassing but answer as honest as you can. When I seen Dr. Sharma  he had some student so I sat in a room with 5 people looking at me and I can tell you I wanted to crawl in a hole. But I made it through.
Even though you had blood work by your family Doctor they recommend more blood work cause they test for different things such as your vitamin D level, most of these things are not tested by routine blood work.
The sleep study can be done in your own home but it comes with a cost of 150.00 it is done by Functional Sleep Solutions, depending of course on where you live. They can also give you a referral to a clinic in Edmonton and there is no cost for that one.
Rember to track everything you eat, track your emotions on why you eat ex: bored angry, it'll help when you see the physocoist (sp?)
Anyway I feel like I am writing a novel so I end this by saying Good Luck and Best wishes for gret results.
