sorry folk aren't participating. have you tried other forums like Rny? I find where I like to post varies with how far out I am. lately I mostly hang out on R&R
do you mind talking about Edmonton? I am one of those folks who can't get health insurance and would like to move to Canada. I don't know much about it and would like to hear about climate, jobs, things like that.
would you mind?
Jackie
ps I grew up in Northern Minnesota so I know about severe winters. how much SUN do you have there?
once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Hello Jackie
I follow the RNY and Lightweight Board also...just wanted to stir up some of my Albertan friends...some I have met through the clinic I am a part of and other things...lol
Climate in Edmonton...snowy, sometimes cold (average about -16C in winter)...spring is nice...summers are warm...(around 20C and up)...fall is beautiful...we get some rain but not a tremendous amount...it varies.
Jobs..depends what you do? It was awesome a year or two ago...it fluctuates..but jobs are on the rise again.
My surgery was covered by my Alberta Health Care along with my future Tummy Tuck when my weight stabilizes....after care is awesome...I follow the Weight Wise Clinic here in Edmonton. Have been with them for over a year...and will continue with them till my reconstructive surgery.
Anything else..just ask.

my two problems are I am 48 years old and I hate my job ****upational therapy) so I want to go back to school and learn something else. then I will be in 50s - not the ideal person any country wants to immigrate.
what I am wondering is, what jobs look best in your area for the future? I really hate healthcare!
I was thinking of learning IT - programming, something like that. I need to train for something where they are so needing workers they will take someone in her 50s!
climate: are the summers dry, not humid? is there a lot of sun? are winters pretty cloudy?
what is the difference between living in Calvary and Edmonton? those are the only major cities in Alberta, aren't they?
I really appreciate your input!

Calgary people will say that Calgary is the best city and Edmonton peeps will say their city is better!. I moved to Calgary last March and love it here. The winter is kinda cold, but, we have Chinooks and it warms up some. Summer is hot and not a lot of humidity at all.

all the best people are in Calgary, looks like.
kidding!
you are looking great, I'll keep you in mind to ask more specific questions of. like, how long does it take to drive from one to the other?

Summers mainly dry...and not too hot...comfortable I would say...sometimes we get up to 30C...but most times around the mid 20s...no it's not humid.
Yes...there is a lot of sun...year round.
Winters are cloudy when it snows....clear and beautiful when it doesn't...

I have never lived in Calgary so I can't answer that...when I do visit Calgary I enjoy the mountains (which are about an hours drive away)....other cities in Alberta are Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge.
I lived in Red Deer for a time...it is beautiful there and right in between Edmonton and Calgary...so you have about an hour and a half drive either way.
First off I am not sure how it works in Calgary...but I know there is a doctor in Medicine Hat and Red Deer I believe. For Edmonton, you need a referal from your GP to the Weight Wise Clinic...wait times are about a year I think, but once you start in the clinic...you go through modules and such (I didn't at the time I started my journey)...but it takes about a year in the clinic seeing, psychologists, nurses and doctors before they approve you for surgery.
They don't just cut anymore...they find out what causes you to gain weight and deal with ALL issues.
It's the best two year journey of my life....I wouldn't change a thing.
