Post VSG Surgery Issues
RNY on 05/23/12
Hey NewLeaf:
My transistion has been going pretty good overall. I have been able to eat pretty much anything that I want except in much smaller quantities. I have to admit that I am still having issues with the speed at which I eat. I tend to get that frequent uncomfortable pressure in the stomach/chest becuase either I've eaten too fast or it's a bit too much. Fortunately, these are standard issues and it will just take more time for me to learn this new behaviour. I haven't had too many issues with getting enough protien, which is surprising. When my dietician said 85-100g a day, I was a bit worried. However, if you stick with a lot of dairy and lean meats, it's pretty easy. I'm actually surprised that I've been eat under 2000 calories a day and I'm not hungry. In fact, eating has become somewhat of chore and I have to force myself to do it. What a switch! :)
My wife is going through the pre-op jitters since her surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. She is a bit nervous, but not enough so to cancel the procedure. I had the jitters as well, but I was able to hide them much better. We have to go to the clinic tomorrow for the weigh in at 8am. After that, it's waiting for the call. She is hoping that she'll be first on the docket. I know that she is not looking forward to the post-op liquid diet. Since she wasn't on a pre-op liquid diet, it's going to be tougher to handle, I think. We will see.
Cheers!
