I attended Module #1 in Sept/09, now I'm just waiting for my first assessment, when that will be, I don't know.  Anyways since coming back, I've gone through two major stresses in my life. #one: ended a relationship(abusive) and #2: best friend died suddenly.  I've been trying hard to write down everything I've been eating, but sometimes I forget.  On the bright side I've lost 23 Ibs and exercise 3x's a week!  So I hope that Weight Wise will look at that.  I've been over 400 Ibs for over 15+ years and now I weigh; 392:)  I'm so looking forward to my first assessment and travelling back to Edmonton.  OH! does anyone know of a half decent hotel near Royal Alex Hospital, prefer a non-smoking hotel. It really doesn't have to be close, just a good hotel.

Thanks

Hey Linda--Stop by the social work department or call them and ask them to send you a list of hotels near by. I found one on the list that was nice and hospital rate was $89 and this included a full hot breakfast (although I didn't eat it as I was preOp to surgery).

Sorry to hear that life is stressful right now. Seems like you are doing amazing handling it.
Life will be busy now...good luck and keep posting

Hi New Leaf

Thanks for the infor.  i was going to stay at Chateau Louis, but I need a non-smoking hotel as I have to carry oxygen with me.  It looks like an nice hotel on their web site though.

There is a Ramada that is okay... only a few blocks away on either Princess Elizabeth or Kingsway. Also, out on Calgary Trail (further away but lots of shopping and stuff out in that area) there is a new Holiday Inn that is BRAND NEW, so likely never been smoked in!

My suggestion would be that you might want to look at the bigger hotels in the downtown core.  Here is a google link to what's in and around the RAH.  You didn't mention price point. So, you will have a range of pricing/ratings.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q= hotels&sll=53.543878,-113.470144&sspn=0.037282,0.111151&ie=U TF8&radius=2.28&rq=1&ev=zo&layer=t&hq=hotels&hnear=&ll=53.55 3516,-113.490658&spn=0.037273,0.111151&z=14&iwloc=E

The dowtown core is only about a 5 min drive to the RAH, which will just be a bit north.  Traffic coming out of the core in the AM will be fine.  Plus, if you want to save on parking, taking the bus up to the RAH will be relatively easily and cost effective.  Pricing for parking at the RAH runs up to $15 for 24 period.  I believe it's up to $40 for a week.  I don't recall what the cost is for the pedway parkade is.  I seem to recall paying $11 for 3 hour stay once.  Animals!!

Cheers!
