I started about a month ago in the weight wise program. So far I am loving it. I wear my pedometer and journal my food and exercise.

it will be a long journey but I am excited to be on it.

I would love to make friends with some other people in the program (in Edmonton or not) to be able to bounce things related to the program and this whole process off of. Who else would know exactly what I would be talking about except for another person experiencing it!

I look forward to talking to you.

Hey ladies.. so excited to meet people in the same program as me.

I was considering the lap band but have since decided on the RNY instead. I have my follow up phone call today.

I've been changing my eating already, i'm trying to stick to a 1600 calorie a day and tracking everything. My step goal for the day is around 3000 steps.

Hope you both have a great day and so nice to hear from you both!

Oh, and yes I live in edmonton.. =)

I was in the program for about a year and a half, then had my RNY surgery on May 19, 2009.

In November I weighed 278....lost 25 lbs....,pre op liquid diet lost 9 lbs and to date I have loss almost 40 lbs (39.8).  So total since November it has been almost 75 lbs.

I have never been happier....my hair is starting to fall out a bit now....I was expecting it....but it will stop in a few months and come back even thicker (I am told).

I started in a size 3-4X pant......now  a size 18.....a 3X top...now  L or XL..what a feeling to shop in NORMAL stores.

LIfe is good..

Your hair falls out after surgery? I wasn't aware of this. What other surprises do I have in store for me?

It's quite common for RNY'ers....around the 4 month mark...it will grow back. I have been eating/drinking my right amount of protein, but it didn't help.

A small price to pay for a short period of time...for a long, healthy, looking great life ;)

Would totally make sense that you'd lose your hair for a little while anyway. I have a four month old baby and my hair is falling out like mad. Once your body goes through a change in hormones, hairloss is extremely common. Don't worry-- you're not likely going to have a bald patch but rather have lots of strands out when brushing or showering.
I hate my recessing bits at the moment post partum but it'll go away.
As the previous poster said....small price to pay. :)

I too started in the progam last month ( August 6th ).
I started journalling after my orientation class but I didn't last long doing that until my husband suggested we start a Wii Fit challenge in our home. That was all it took for me to get out my binder and log every last lil thing that went into my body. I'm 43 days in and I'm a diehard and dedicate food journaler.

I wear a pedometer and on average, I walk about 7000 steps( without exercise of course). I am a mom of 2 young sons, so I don't have alot of down time.

I do not live in Edmonton but I am not too far from the city .
I met with Dr. Sharma yesterday and I was really excited to see my progress on the scale from Aug 6th- Sept 16-------------- 15 lbs GONE!!!! I started following the Canada's food guide, cutting out fast food, pop, saturated fats ( basically everything I used to love to gobble up). I haven't had a bag of chips in 50 odd days and I don't miss it at all. When I have a pop, which has been rare, it's diet . I'm a loyal water drinker and always have a glass full in my kitchen.
I'm going to start my exercise program up again ( vacation mafde it take a backseat) tonight again and look forward to losing another 15 lbs!!

I go back to Edmonton on Oct 5th, for an OT class, meet with the dietitican and therapist.....and I look forward to getting more tools to help me on this journey.

Best wishes to you....you CAN and WILL accomplish this HUGE step in life!!

I journal online, but i reall yneed to start writing it down as I am not sure how I can show the deitician what I'm eating if it's online.

I have my first appointment with the dietian on Oct 28 and another (the second live) appointment with my nurse on the same day. I've already done the full body scan (YIKES!) and the sleep apnea test.

I'm halfway through the mods. The beginning of Nov 3 I have my appointments with the Psychologist, Dr. Yaltho and the OT Class.

I'd love to have the surgery as soon as possible, but I'm willing to wait untill they tell me I am ready.
