I have decided to go with the weight wise program in edmonton. I heard that although it is a tough program it is also one of the best. I will be going for my first class sometime in the next month. Has anyone else gone through the weight wise program and actullay recieved surgery? I would love to hear all about it. Thanks!

The only info i have about the edmonton program is that my sister has done her first 3 modules already and will go back next month to complete 3 more, i believe there are 10 in total.  Good luck, hopefully they can book several modules at once to save you some money.

Hello there!

I have been in the weigh wise program for a few months. I have taken 6 of the 8 modules and have had my first clinic visit, the full body/bone density scan and the sleep apnea test.

I have a follow up phone call with my nurse tomorrow and next month I go for the dietitian and another clinic visit.

It is a tough program only because they want to make sure that you are ready both mentally and physically for the surgery if that is the path you choose.

The modules are great. They give you both information that is general and that you will already know, but also give you new information, and some surprising information. The people running the mods. are very honest. They answer everything even if it isn't the exact answer you think they should be giving.

I recommend this program whole hearted. If you are interested please sign up soon as the waiting list is very long.

I was in the program for about a year and a half, then had my RNY surgery on May 19, 2009.

In November I weighed 278....lost 25 lbs....,pre op liquid diet lost 9 lbs and to date I have loss almost 40 lbs (39.8).  So total since November it has been almost 75 lbs.

I have never been happier....my hair is starting to fall out a bit now....I was expecting it....but it will stop in a few months and come back even thicker (I am told).

I started in a size 3-4X pant......now  a size 18.....a 3X top...now  L or XL..what a feeling to shop in NORMAL stores.

LIfe is good..

I was referred to Weight Wise by my family physican in March 2008. I got the call to come to the orientation in March of this yr.  At the time, I was pregnant and asked to be bumped back a  few months so I could begin after my child was born. Late June I attended my first module and was so excited about getting the call to be a member of this "club"

I first met with my casework in early August and loved every minute of it.  I started to food journal, enrolled in all the modules, booked a bone density/scan, booked appts to meet with Dr. Sharma, a dietitican, take an OT class & see a therapist.

My RN has informed me that the program will last 9 months and in those 9 months you are going to learn the tools needed for this journey to be successful. When asked if I considered surgery, my reply was YES and I was told I am an excellent candidate for surgery . ( average weightloss after surgery is 60-80 lbs.

I started food journalling on August 3 and lost 15 lbs when I went for my 6 week check up. The goal between appts is to use the tools you've learned to MAINTAIN your weight.

I think this is a wonderful program but if you're looking for a quick fix - this isn't for you.
You need to change everything and anything to make this work. I'm not giving up on my life and will do anything to make myself healthier!!

Start weight- 316
Current weight 301
Goal-- 175 for now.

I second what you have said about it not being a quick fix...it is a long road..but like you mentioned it prepares you for life after. I thought I knew a lot about food and exercise before, and I did...but I have learned a lot.
Hang in there...it will be worth it
