Dr. Karmali

Hello all,

Well I found out that Dr. Nohr does not do the sleeve, Dr. Farries does not take out of town patients... and I have not seen much said about Dr. Karmali... any opinions?

I had the band done a few months ago by Karmali, I no for sure that he does all the Wls surgeries. He told me I could of gotten the band, sleeve or bypass by him.
He works out of the weight wise clinic, which u have to be referred by a family physician, then u have to follow the weight wise program. I guess I heard the wait was at least a few years before getting to see a surgeon.
Hope this helps, but I do know for sure he does it as a girl I know got it done.

Who told you that Dr Farries doesn't take out of town patients? That's so not true. I live in Lethbridge, and I know of one girl who had her surgery done by him and she lives here. Also another girl that lived west of Edmonton and Dr Farries was her surgeon as well.

I do know though that you must have your referral faxed in to him on May 1 to be considered for surgery.

I just got a call back from Dr. Farries office and he does only Alberta Residents only, he doesn't take out of Province Patients.

Yup and I am from BC.. so nata.. damit :)

Weird cuz there is someone from SASK that just had theirs done by Dr. F...and I have heard of others from BC...

When the time comes for his referrals I would still have your doc send it in.  Maybe that is what they tell you over the phone.

Dr. Karmali is amazing. He did my Roux en Y October 2011. I can not say enough good about his preoperative and post op care. He and his entire team are fantastic.

For what it's worth, Dr. Karmali is an excellent choice.  He did my sleeve last week.

He is very personable and friendly guy who tells it straight.  No mixed messages and handles things in a compassionate manner.  I've talked with him on 3 or 4 occasions and I have never had and issue with him.  He's also pretty young.  Early to mid 30's, if I were to guess.

Additionally, Claudia Farner who had the first sleeve in Canada performed by Dr. Karmali, has his email address.  I don't know if that applies to all patients or just her becuase she is the first.  However, the notion that she has access to him for her needs is exceptional.

I would recommend Dr. Karmali without hestitation.
