Back from surgery

Hello everyone.

Had my surgery at the RAH on Tuesday morning May 19... got out of the hospital on Saturday May 23....definitly SWOLLEN and sore....especially the incision they leave open for drainage. (The opening all the main work was done on stapling etc).

I have a home care nurse coming once a day to pack my incision and check in on me....so far so good.

On straight codeine liquid for pain...tastes grose but does the trick. I have booked two weeks off of work...hopefully returning June 8...I have my first Dr Birch appt at the clinic same day...will see how long I last at work.

If it wasn't for the bloating...swollen feet...pain of the open incision...I would say I feel great.

How is everyone else doing?

Brenda

Welcome back Brenda and welcome to the losers bench! Here, I'll move over for ya...!
The next month will be challenging but take it day by day, even hour by hour and you will get through it and the rewards are wonderful. I'm 9 weeks out and feeling like myself again and starting to enjoy my  changing body and you will too.

Just posted then saw you on here.

I feel good too, almost scary. I had laproscopic surgery so I guess I got off easy. My ankles are swollen at night too but during the day I feel so good.

I, guess we are just a couple of loser's now!!

Maybe, I have yet to see any losses!!

Take care of yourself and all the best.

Hello Brenda--glad to hear that you are doing okay...sounds like you did well.
Hope your pain level is less and you are off the codeine soon. I wonder if that is what is causing the swelling? Did you have open surgery? I thought you were having lapro?
I am doing great thanks for asking.

You can either believe it will happen...or believe it won't both are self fulfilled prophesies

Hi

No had a laproscopy but two days after sugery...I developed a fever in the hospital..they thought it could be the open area (main incision) they snipped a couple of sutures (but there were only two on one side) and found no infection...so they thought maybe a leak..because I had the barium swallow day after surgery and found no leaks I was cleared for fluids. It was the next day i developed a fever. I was taken for a chest x-ray and x-ray of the bowel...if the barium was in my bowel then there was no leak...but they wanted to test my lungs... I was low in oxygen...not taking deep breathing enough...so that's what the problem was...my lungs weren't opening up enough. After some deep breathing excercises and tylenol my temperature broke and I felt much better, but was left with my incision even wider than normal to go home with.

Hence the codiene for pain...which I am off of now and switched to extra strength tylenol.

By the way, how did your last Friday appointment go...any signs of surgery?

Brenda
