ENSURE

My surgery is booked for June 17, the RAH.  My next appt. at WW is on June 9.  no one has mentioned drinking Ensure before or after my surgery.  Can anyone give me more information on this?  I am new on this forum so there may be a place to find this info. but I don't know how to do it yet.

Welcome to the AB forum. From what I understand not everyone has to do the full preop diet, each person is on their own journey. Please call your nut or nurse and ask about it.

I am going to have lap band surgery & I am a little afraid even if I have been waiting for quite some time & wanted this for so long.  I haven't told very many people because of the people I have told have been against this surgery...but  I have to do what, I think, is best for me.

Hello...I was just reading through messages as I had just joined today.  I have a referral into Dr. Farries as of this past May 2009.  You had mentioned that you waited for a long time.  Can I ask how long?  I am so tired of waiting for anything to happen.  I am tempted to go out of province if needed.

Sorry for the delay in answering as I just got back from Florida. 

I have waited about 2 years but I could have had the surgery 4-6 months ago but decided to have the surgery after returning from Florida.

The beginning wait is the longest.  I didn't have the money to go to Mexico or anywhere else.

so your gettin the same surgery as me with teh same dr. taht is so so cool.
We shoudl meet up and have a chat, or even after surgery if you wish.
So when did you get your surgery date??? and also did you do all the test taht need to be completed prior to surgery, ekg, lung test, stomach ultrasound, blood work and fluoroscopy??/

Thank you for your reply.  I got my surgery date in March or April.  I was in Florida & had to make it for after I returned home.  No, I haven't had all my test done.  I have had the lung functioning & blood work done & I have the other test done on Wednesday.

Sorry for my delay in replying but I was in Florida & just got back to Edm. 

My waiting time has been about 2 years but the beginning of the process was the slowest.  Also, I could have had the surgery (lap band) about 4-6 months ago but I was going to Florida & decided to wait until I got back for the surgery.  I have no idea as to how they decide surgery dates.

I was told not to use Ensure. It is way to high in sugar. I was recommended the carnation instant breakfast ( premade - 4 to a box) as it is low in sugar but when I tried them I got sick. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet because my surgeon did not want me depleated in any vitamins and needed me to be strong and heathly before surgery so I would heal quickly with out complications. I did as he asked and came through with flying colors and I'm now 57 lbs down in just over 8 weeks.

What surgery are you getting>? Ive heard if you have diabetes or health problems, sometimes you dont need to do the 2 week ensure diet.  D.r. Karmali and Dr. Sharma told me i didnt have to do it , but then the dietician and the nurse told me I had to???

You might wanna call the weight wise clinic or even ask for a call back from your dietician as he is the one that will tell you how many cans of ensure and skim milk you need per day? Hope that help, let me know what u find out
