I really want the Lap Band surgery
I live in Edmonton Alberta. I am will to pay for the surgery (If I don't have to wait) Does any one know of "Private" clinics in Canada (the closer to home the better) Also -- my BMI is 33.5. At some places they say I don't qualify. Is it wrong to want to correct the problem before It gets too bad. I have a family history of obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes (As well was a gestational diabetic with all 4 pregnancies which also puts me at higher risk for type 2 diabeties) I need HELP !!!
There are places in Canada that do WLS on a patient pay bais in Ontario and in Quebec. Just google weightloss surgeries in Canada. It is quite expensive though and if you leave Alberta for a lapband you will have to find a doctor here that can do the fills for you and they may or may not charge for it.
I am going to Mexico for the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I didn't want to have to worry about all the necessary follow ups with the band and I wanted a something that was permanent as weight has been a life long battle for me.

I'm looking at the 6th of July, but I'm waiting for my labs to come back before I finalize the date. I'm just relieved that my doctor is supporting my decision to go to Mexico. Thank-you for thinking of me.

Hey...that is my b-day...which means it is going to be a perfect day for surgery. Nice to know that your doc is on your side...cool. Keep me posted on your progress, I am so excited for you and I am guessing that my surgery will be just after you.

Are you worried that theymight postpone it due to the "swine flu" epidemic.
Good luck....I am scheduled for RNY on May 19 with Dr Birch at the Royal Alex. Day one of my liquid diet....

The mexico doctors do all the various bariatric surgeries, not just lapband, and they usually have more experience then our own doctors. I'm not too concerned with swine flu as I'm not going for two months, it will have run its course by then and if it gets postponed I'll just deal with it.
Good luck with you RNY! I'm sure you will have an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery! I'm thinking the pre-op liquid diet is probably worse then the operation itself! You go girl!

Hi--I know you are frustrated, possibly scared. I am sorry I don't know any places that do it quickly or with your BMI in Canada.
Just thought I would welcome you to the Alberta board and wish you well.
One other thing you might want to consider is where you will get your fills/unfill? I think you might have a tricky time finding any one in Edmonton. I know the weight wise clinic doesn't take non clients. I don't want to discourage you from the band but I know others have struggled to get service.
