I had a VSG done last June. I have had a leak since then. I go to the surgeons appointment next week. But, my question is. I want to move to Calgary and I need a doctor/surgeon to take over my care. Does anyone know of anyone I could call or get ahold of?

Thanks Donna

Hi Donna,

I am unsure as I live in BC, but there was a post a few days back on the Alberta forum called "Weight Wise politics..." you might be interested in .  There is a thing called the Weight Wise program for people looking into bariatric procedures in Alberta.  You might be successful in finding information by Googling Weight Wise and Alberta (or Calgary).  Good luck.  Where did you have your surgery??  Was it in canada or over the border?

I would so hope with all the problems you have had and the rough road you have had to endure that Dr Klassen or the clinic will make a referal for you to a Calgary program that way you are not trying to get in yourself.

If they set it up than you would be assured you have a dr in place and you wont be on a waiting list. I have heard that its long waits out there like it is here in the Maritimes and I spoke with one lady who is not having much luck getting a local follow up doctor/surgeon - as she had her surgery out of province.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that all works out for you.

the Calgary clinic is virtually not in busuness anymore and not accepting patients.  There is a Dr. Mitchell there that will do fills I think but it is really hard to find followup when you  haven't had your surgery done in AB
The weight wise clinic in Edmonton in doing the sleeve operation now but I don,t know if they will accept referrals from out of province. You could try talking to their coordinator .

It is crazy because people do move for various reasons and need medical care still.

Wishing you lots of luck.  Maybe the first thing to is get a primary care physician and get him to refer you.
