Hello Alberta Group. I'm here!

I Joined a while ago and have been checking every day or so on this forum but like most of you said, its quiet.

I have surgery scheduled for March 16th with Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat even though I live in Edmonton. I waited....8 years from first being referred! It's been a battle but I am looking forward to the end.

I would love to build a network of support so add me as a friend and together we can tackle the tough stuff!

Chao for now!

Hi Kelly

I am soo happy to hear that there are some Albertans that do want to correspond.

I have someone on my friend list who is a patient of Dr. Nohr and she is doing super.

You must be so excited to have your surgery booked. I am hoping to get a date before too long and I have a sister who is having her first consult with my doctor Dr. Farries, on Feb 17 and also a cousin who is in the Weight Wise program in Edmonton.

I guess it really does run in the family in our case!!

I will add you to my friend list and hopefully we can get this Alberta Forum hopping!!

Good luck and I hope to hear from you again soon.

Hello all, my name is Cindy and I belong to a support group that meets at the Royal Alex hosp in Edmonton once a month. We also have an online support group that sees a lot more action than the AB forum. Some of you may be interested as we are all informative in all surgeries offered in this province. We also have patients from all doctors offereing WLS in this province - Dr.s Davey, Birch, Farries, Nohr, and the new surgeon Dr. Karmali (Edmonton). One has to register to become a member of this group. Becoming a member of a support group is instrumental to being successful in WLS - long term! I had VGB 14 yrs ago, staple line came apart regained almost all weight lost (85lbs). Three yrs ago pulled myself back up and went backto surgeon (Dr. Davey) who did the original surgery and was granted a revision to RNY. I had this procedure on April 4/07. Lost all weight previously gained and more. I am currently 160lbs and 5' 7" tall. I have just finished my surgery journey with a breast lift and tummy tuck. However, my journey is not over, I will forever have to watch what I eat and am committed to maintaining my new lifestyle. The Weight Wise program offered at the Royal Alex is a long one but well worth it once your in and going through the program.

Thanks Cindy, I will check out this group as well,.
We have a Red Deer group too, but I agree, you can't have too much support and the battle is a forever one.

Thanks for your reply.

Could  you please send me the information for the support group at the Alex.  I was banded in October by Dr. Davey and would really like to meet with others who have had the surgery.

Thanks

Hi Miranda -

It is nice to hear from you. However I would sggest that you find a different forum to post on in order to get any response to your questions, I'd love to help but unfortunately don't know the answer.

The Alberta forum is not active at all in fact I have friends that have posted to it as well as a to their surgery type forum and the only replies they get are from the other message board.
I can tell you that my Dr. is Lawrence Farries in Red Deer and you could contact his office regarding aftercare if you like but I don't think he even does the vertical sleeve,

Also there is a WLS support group in Edmonton and they may be able to help you. I will leave you with that and try and find the address for the support group and send it in a seperate email.

Good luck with all of this and contact me anytime.
