Happy New Year ...I'm New!
Hello All Albertans!
I'm 10 weeks away from my surgery down in Medicine Hat. I'm getting excited and a little worried too. I thought I would join this site as a way to find support and would love to find a support group here in Edmonton so if anyone knows of one please send me the info, and thank you in advance.
In order to prepare for sugery I joined weigh****chers ( for the 20th time I'm sure) but this time I'm using it as a way to starting eating healthy and get in the habit of tracking foods and such. My goal is to not have hunger pains and anxiety after surgery.
Send me a message, I would love to find some friends here.
Chat with you soon.

Welcome and good luck with your surgery.
I know there is a group that meets in Edmonton, it is patient run and I believe it is at the Royal Alex hospital. When I am up there for my fill on Monday I will try and see if i can get you a contact number.
Meanwhile, this board is a great place to get some support for your efforts .
I had a Realize band put in on Nov 19th at the weight wise clinic in Edmonton but I live in Okotoks so I don't get to their support groups. I do know that they do both surgeries there, RNY and bands so i am sure there are some of both in the support group. They are also starting to do the sleeve surgery.
Once again , welcome . it is always great to meet new people here.

Hi there,
I am leaning towards having the lapband. I'm just really concerned about having the RNY, but that's just me...worry wart by nature!
I'm getting frustrated though, as I've been working out quite a bit (4-5times per week) and I haven't lost a lb in the last 10 days...still btwn 235 and 237. ARGHHHHH.
I know I'm probably just building muscle as I've lost inches...but I really need to see those numbers on the scale. Obsessed you might say.
Do you have a surgery date yet? (I haven't gotten mine yet...but I'm hoping for the spring/summer)
Take care and have a great day!

I can understand your concerns on the RNY. I need to lose over 100 lbs so my surgeon recommended the RNY as the best course of action.
I started this process in 2001, can you believe that over 8 years to get surgery. Oh well, I'm just glad it actually going to happen. The date is scheduled for March 16th, 9 weeks away! Ya Hoo!
I can understand the frustration on the weight loss issues. You are right though, muscle weighs more than fat so you are just getting buff! I was on a program ordered by my doctor a few years ago and they gave me a couple of tips that really worked when you hit a plateau. Drink 1 glassof water before each meal. Drink 1 metamucil drink before a meal ( that means 1 water 1 metamucil) and don't eat anything white. No potatos, rice, bread that are white!
I know you will do well, just get it done!

Hi,
I am from Winnipeg and had to travel to Medicine Hat for surgery with the same surgeon as you, Dr. Nohr. I had my surgery on March 13, 2008, just past my 10 months anniversary. No Regrets!!!! very happy with the surgery and results (127 lbs lost to date). Check out my profile for more info.... I am emailing a few people from Wpg who just had surgery with Dr. Nohr as well. I lost with Weigh****chers but was always crabby, tired, etc but not with this WLS.... lots of energy... happy.... optimistic... I bought some new clothes ... 2 skirts in fact... I haven't bought a shirt or dress for over 20 yrs due to my sixe (PLUS 4-6X), I almost cried yesterday that I could fit into a size 11. Email me if you have any questions...
