Hey all, just banded in Denver yesterday and am still looking for a doctor/nurse for fills in Edmonton.  Anybody find someone willing to do out of country fills!

Little stiff and sore, but glad it's over.

Hey there,
I belong to the Edmonton weight loss clinic and as far as I have heard none of the surgeons there are willing to do fills unless the surgery was done in Edmonton. However, have heard people say that a Dr Mitchell in Calgary has done them for people in your situation. Did you have a fill done in Denver or just the band put in? I had RNY done in Edmonton on Nov 4 08, and am doing fairly well but also glad it is over. If you are from Edmonton there is a support group that meets monthly for lap band and RNY patients. Let me know if you would like more info. There is also and online support group at yahoo canada under groups Edmonton Bariatric Support Group. Good Luck. Nancy

I have gone to the meetings a couple of times, there is some great wls stories and successes there. There are only 3 of us who have been banded at the meetings I have attended. They are a great group of people with a lot of knowledge, but if you are looking for allot of BAND info you wont get it there. I just would not want to see you drive up and expect something you may not get.

You should log on to the main lapband form. There are so many posts and information. It is mostly Americans but a few Canadians and U.K people post there, It is always busy.

Good luck!!

Hi there, I am brand new to this forum (as of today) and I would love to have some more information about this support group in Edmonton.  I have been in the WeightWise program since July 2007 and have just been advised by the hospital that my surgery has been set for January 27th - 17 days from now.  I am both extremely excited and terrified at the same time.  I am having the RNY done.  Dr. Birch is my doctor.  What can I expect in the days following surgery?  Would love to know as you have just gone through the surgery and are at the 2 month post op mark.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Howl long did it take for you to get a surgery date? I see Dr Birch on March 2, 2009.

I did hear that there was DR. in St.Albert who does fills . Scroll the post you may find her. I had my band done here in Edmonton w/ DR.Birch. Everything went off great. I have had 1 fill so far and am not expecting another any time soon. You will be very happy you had the band as my life is 100% better then ever before. Good luck in your journey.

welcome back from denver

I also had my banding done in Denver by Dr.K.   I was unable to find any one in Edmonton to do my fills, granted I didnt look too far. Dr.Farries in Reddeer said they would be happy to do mine
but you do prepay for several. I heard about a Dr.in Sexsmith near Grande Prairie ,so I set up the appointment and and when I got there he informed me that he would not do fills for anyone not having had their surgery in Toronto. I guess they have some agreement. Then I found out about the Dr. at the GP hospital who does them so I dont have to leave my area for fills.  I have the AP14cc band.I am at 13.5cc and have pretty good resriction. It took many fills to get here. So you need some one fairly close to get to all your appointments. I would suggest Dr.Farries.
