Hi my name is Eydie and I am going to have surgery in Edmonton in the near future.  Just wondering why people don't post more frequently on this site.

We need a strong support group in alberta as the clinics don't offer much for group support.

Come on you guys, lets really help each other succeed in the weight loss journey however we chose to do it .....we can keep each other strong and give each other helpful hints.

Looking forward to hearing from more of you .

Living the journey........  with a smile !!.........Eydie

Hi Pam'  I was beginning to wonder if anyone was out there!! Glad to hear from you.  Is Dr.Davey out of Red Deer?

Sounds like you were banded about a year ago, How has it gone for you?

I get my band on Dec 3 in Edmonton with Dr. Karmali at the Weight wise clinic.  I had originally planned to go to Arizona for a bypass due to the long weight lists here in alberta and had even gotten some funding from Alberta Wellness. The next day after the funding was approved , I got the call from Edmonton that they could do me before Christmas if I would go for the band.  Of course my ARizona funding was withdrawn because I could now get surgery in Alberta.

After some consideration I agreed to go with the band...just hope I will have as good results with the diabetes control and the weight loss.

Oh well, I guess all things work out for the best eventually and if I had had complications in Arizona I would probably be bankrupt from the extra health care costs.

Lovely to talk with you.      Eydie in Okotoks

Hi Eydie, This is a very quiet area of the boards. You must be getting excited about your upcoming surgery. I just wanted to wish you good luck. I hope all goes well and I'm sure you'll do great! I went to Mexico for my band and while I haven't lost as much as I'd like to-my own fault- I have no regrets about having the surgery, and I know if I hadn't had it, I'd have gained a whole lot more. So take care and I'll be watching to see how it goes for you.

Hey Eydie,

I find part of the reasons why the following on this site is sparse is particularly navigation getting to the Canadian province listings (I found them by accident) getting distracted reading the postings on the main board and then never make it over to Alberta seems to happen a lot too!  I also find I spend a fair amount of time on the site for the clinic I had my surgery.

I agree that more posts would be most helpful thus creating our own support group.  I personally am going to make a greater effort!

Thanks for the reminder that we need to support each other any way we can.

HI .  Good to hear from another Albertan.

I see you are from Edmonton....did you have your surgery at WEight Wise clinic.?

I am booked for a realize band there on Dec.3.  Would love to talk to others who have had their provedures done there.  As far as I have been able to find out they don't have any parient support groups at this time.

No, I didn't have my surgery at the Weight Wise Clinic, I went out of Country.

December 3 will be here faster than you know it.  I thought when you go through the Weight Wise Clinic one of their focuses is maintaining contact before, during and after, keeping a full support system from day one.  Is this not the case anymore, or are you looking for people to be in touch with outside the Clinic?

Hi, Eydie.

My name is Barb and I live in Calgary, and  I too am hoping for surgery. After a 10 month wait I finally go in for the Orientation on March 4th, so Im pretty excited that things are finally starting to move forward.  I knew I was headed in this direction 2 yrs ago so my entire focus has been on losing as much weight as I could between then & now, trying to quit smoking, which I accomplished (March 15, 08), and really, just trying to start feeling good about myself again.  Anyway, I only just discovered this site a short time ago, and it really does help knowing that Im NOT alone in my struggle.
