I have no idea if there are convalesent homes but Dr. Nohrs office should be able to tell you. I live maybe 3 kilometers from the hospital and the drive home just about killed me. I know you are excited about having the surgery but keep in mind that one out of 100 cases the surgery fails. That was what happened in my case. I have been extremely ill since my surgery and am awaitining revisional surgery. Dr. Nohr is one of the surgeons that may do the surgery. There is also a Dr. Davie in Edmonton that is looking at my case. If neither of the dr.s do it soon Sask health says they will be sending me out of country to have it done. So my experience has been horrible to tell you the truth. My best friends had the same surgery and have had the greatest success and have done so well. They had a different surgeon. He blew out the scales at 380 plus and is now 214 and looks like a million bucks! His wife was 250 and is down to between 150 to 160 she looks absoluteluy gorgeous. So there are two sides to the story. Unfortuneately I had an inexperienced surgeon in gastric bypass surgery. Just my luck lol. Oh well **** happens. I am looking forward to getting everything repaired and feeling well. It does take time to feel really well but the weight loss is what is so exciting so it helps in coping with the discomfort and pain. Because you can feel and see the results. I was 315 lbs and got down to 265 and then started putting on weight. I now weigh 295 and am sitting at that weight. I found out that my Dr. should have know within 3 months that the surgery had failed but he didn't have a clue. So unfortuneately I refuse to allow him to do a repeat performance on me. If he didn't know enough about the surgery in the first place and failed to recognize that the surgery had failed why would I allow him to touch me again. So then the hunt began for a new surgeon and warring with Sask. Health. I had to threaten Sask. Health that I would sue them and the surgeon if they didn't help me to get the help I need. So now they are attempting to push things along and putting pressure on these out of province surgeons. It's tricky business but if something isn't done within the next three months I am going public and will start the process of suing the surgeon and Sask. Health. I just feel that I should not have to suffer the way I have been and I should not have to take over a 100 miligrams of morphine plus a day just to deal with the pain. There are days when that amount isn't enough. It has been 18 months since my surgery so I am very pissed off and fed up. But I am really happy for you because Dr. Nohr comes highly recommended so I believe you are in good hands. Hope all goes well and do let me know. Take care, Donna

Holy Toledo!! That is just terrible! I'm praying that you get some good news, and soon! Naturally i have heard of this surgery going wrong, but never had the chance to talk with someone, although i wi**** were otherwise for your sake! will the revision put things back the way the were originally, or will they fix the surgery to be what it was supposed to be in the first place? That is definitely something that needs to be hurried along with, Best wishes in resolving things, i would say quickly, but its already taking waaaayyy too long for you! Wow, i really hope things work out... Take care Christine

Thanks for the kind words Christine. I went to the Doctor today. We are giving Alberta another week to week and a half then I will start leaning on the government to do something. If I have to go out of country I am thinking Mexico. Apparently the surgeons are wonderful and the care you get is unbelievable. So I will have to see how things go. My Doctor seems to think that the Canadian Doctors will turn me down due to my complications. Any which way hopefully it will all be dealt with soon. The whole situation is just terribly frustrating and I honestly pray it doesn't happen to anyone else. But what the heck, best foot forward... Take Care, Donna

Hi Christine... I would like Rosalie suggest the Best Western or maybe the Callaghan Inn, it is suposed to be all remodelled. there are otheres on this side of the highway like the hospital but Im not too sure on the cleanlieness. I would think that the super 8 is quite a ways being on the other side of the city, but it is up to you. I had surgery in Nov. 07. I had my husband with me he prepared the stuff i was eating. I think if my kids were away I could have managed on my own, but it was nice to have him do the kitchen work. Good Lulck to you Angie
