Farries Lap-band
Hi
I hae a question for you. Does Dr. Farries do his surgeries open or laprascopicly? I had mine done in Denver 3 weeks ago by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. I paid 9800$. I figured if I have to go to Red Deer from GP at least 6 time my surgery is mostly paid for, considering time off work , fuel, hotels ect. Now I want my husband to have it done . He is tye2 diabetic and I think he should have the surgery in Canada. In case of complications he's better off here. Having said that if he can not get it done lapriscopicly then we will go to Denver. The other consideration is If he loses the 30 to40 lbs he will no longer qualify with a bmi of around 30. The Dr. in Denver said he is the perfect canidate. There is a lot of evidence that you esentually cure tye2 with weightloss surgery. Unfortunatly Alberta is not ready to embrace this concept yet. His diabeties concellor has never heard of this. any ways thanks for any info you would have on Dr. Farries.

As of last year the David Thompson Health Region was only funding the open RYN but now that he is doing the lap band, which is a lapriscopic procedure? is it not. I have no idea about his funding for lap RYN this year. I'd give his office a call and ask. He told me he could do the RYN lapriscopically but it took a lot more time and the DTHR wouldn't cover the extra cost. ???? I am not much help. His phone number is 403-347-9037. Good luck. As I understand it if you have a lower BM he still has you lose weight but not as much? Again call and see.

Paula thanks for this tip! I just had my doctor send a referral to Dr. Farries, and I phoned his office- I should have my first appointment with him before June. I can't wait. I am already taking the Edmonton Weight Wise classes-- and have been tracking my food and exercise for over a year... I am hoping all of this will show my commitment and pray that I canhave surgery before another year passes.
Thanks again for the info
