Your experience with Dr Farries?

My doctor with be booking a contsltation with Dr Farries May 1. Id just like some information from anyone who has been a patient of his. First , how long was your first appointment after the inital booking may 1? Second, i was informed he will not accept patients who smoke.. how long do you have to be a non smoker before he'll see you? (i currently smoke) Third, what should i expect from the first appointment? how much weight does he want you to lose before he'll give a surgery date. And fourth, how long from the very first appointment to your surgery date? Thank you very much

I got a referral to see Dr Farries LAST May.... my first appointment with him is April 10th. I have heard he wants us to lose 30 - 40 lbs in 3 months before he'll approve you for surgery. Can't comment on the other questions as they do not apply or haven't happened to me yet. Hope this helps a little....

He'll ask you first appointment if you smoke. If he questions if you have really stopped he has a blood test he will make you take. He is totally firm on the smoking thing. I am sure it would show your commitment to the process if you quit before, that is just my thoughts. I had my first appointment in Nov, I know of some starting in June. It will all depend on when your receptionist gets through mine took half and hour of hitting redial to get in. My surgery was almost a year after my consult date. Others are only 6 months so it depends on the OR and how busy they are. Good luck Paula

Blood test eh? i do plan to quit..im just curious what if youre using stop smoking aids like gum or a patch? would that show up in a blood test? Is everyone subjected to this blood test?I know he requires his patients to lose some weight before he'll do the surgery..im just curious..what if i lose a bunch before my consultation..does that count if i have proof? ( im making a weight loss video diary)

He gives you a typed out program plan with his expectations. It talks in there about the blood test. He doesn't give them to everyone as I didn't have one but he said to me the first time I met him just by looking at me " you obviously are not a smoker" so who knows? Losing weight before hand does not count. I know of others that have tried it. They didn't have a video diary though so who knows? Call his office they'll know for sure. Paula
