Help please
I went to a surgeon in Richmond BC referred by my GP. Found out he had only done 2 lapband surgeries. He wants me to go to a dietician for 4-6 months before he does the surgery. Has anyone heard of this?
I dont think he gets that I have done that routine several times over.
Also, does anyone know of a surgeon in the Vancouver area, not Delta Dr. Woodhouse, who performs this surgery? Lapband.
Has anyone heard of any complications from cancer, erosion, not able to get fills locally etc? I have heard Woodhouse charges 400.00 per review.
Let me know with thanks,
Hi there. I don't know of a surgeon there that does this. I do know that alot of people from BC have gone to the clinic I went to in Toronto. You have to pay for the procedure at the one in Toronto. It was my understanding that BC didn't cover this anyway. I would be happy to point you in the direction of my clinic and give you all the details. They are fabulous. From the day of my consult to the day of my surgery it was a total of 6 weeks. I haven't looked back. Let me know if you would like more info.

Hi!
I am from Saskatchewan and there is a doctor in Surrey, BC that does the LapBand but charges $16,000.00 and BC Medical does not cover this surgery anyway so payment would have to be out of pocket. I am scheduled to go to Dr. Kuri in Mexico on November 8th for half the price! If you need any additional information - there is a website you can check out about him. www.lapbandsurgery.com
Hope this helps.

Hi there I am also from Sask. & went to Dr. Kuri in Mexico For half the price. You can get cheap flights and with the US dollar so low it is cheaper than going to Toronto. The wait time is very short and the hospital is nicer, more professional & cleaner than you will ever see in Canada. Go to Dr. Kuri's sight & check it out. Penny
HI PENNY
Just found this sight and I am excited that you went to Mexico. How did you find and research the doctors? I live in Edmonton and although I can't afford it, I need to do it for me. I have been miserable with this 100 lbs. for 25 years now. I am worried about the fills - how did you hook up to the Saskatoon nurse?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Shari
Hi Shari the only research I did was about the lapband itself on the internet & knew I wanted to have this done. I look at it as an investment in mine & my family's furture. I saw an advertisment and found Shirley. She had a seminar and I found her to be very personable and truthful. I f you would like to e-mail her at [email protected] or her web site www.lapbandsask.com she will usually get back to you right away. She is in contact with Dr. Kuri on a daily basis and can set everything up for you when ever you want even as early as 2 weeks. If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] Penny
Hi There is a nurse in Saskatoon who is doing fills who has a lapband and is very knowledgeable about it. I did have a bit of swelling & was a bit uncomfortable & I e-mailed Dr. Kuri & he phoned me at work to help me thru the problem. My GP is also there to help in anyway he can as well. Even if I had it done in Toronto I would still have to travel if I had problems, it might take a little longer to get there but I would still have to travel quite a distance & saved myself $6-8000.00. I have never heard any complaints about Toronto hospital either. Penny
