I made it home!
Everyone kept asking me "Are you nervous?". No I wasn't nervous, I was excited. That was until I was in the taxi being whipped through Puerto Vallarta on my way to the hospital. Then I thought "I'm in MEXICO on my way to have surgery, am I nuts?". But everything at the hospital went very well. I had met three other women from the Doctor's support group that were having the surgery on the same day. When I got there the room was not quite ready so I asked about the women I had met on the support site. I was able to go and meet them and felt more at ease.
I arrived at the hospital around 4pm and after the pre-op tests was taken down to the operating room at 6:30. It all went off smoothly and I was back up in my room before I knew it.
The worst part of the surgery was the gas pain. I had a lot of pain that moved up into my shoulders. So I was told to walk. I walked and walked (as best I could after having surgery). But it took 4 days until I didn't feel the gas pain in my shoulders and abdomen. Ah,relief. I was never so happy to be passing gas in my life!
My flight home was not the best. I made it to Phoenix and after waiting for my 7:25pm flight to leave they cancelled it at 10:30 due to A/C problems. We all headed off to the customer service for US Airlines. Once in line, I decided to call the customer service line. The man told me the first flight to Edmonton would not be until July 3rd (it was July 1st). I told him I could fly to Vancouver or Calgary too. He said that would cost me $100 plus the cost of the difference between the tickets. I told him I would wait in lne. The woman behind me was also on the phone and she was getting a flight! So I asked her if I could talk to that service rep after she was done. The wonderful woman let me! I got a flight at 540 the next morning that left from Phoenix to LA and then LA to Vancouver. Since it was already after midnight, I decided there was no point in leaving the airport. After arriving in Vancouver I got the last seat to Fort St John and drove home from there. Home sweet home.
I am not feeling hungery at all. I am concentrating on getting enough water in and sipping on apple juice. Once in a while I feel something (maybe air?) pass through the band. I have the normal mild tenderness at the incision sites and that's it.
Hi Rhonda, I'm so glad to hear you made it home safely! What a terrible experience coming home, I'm so sorry you had to go through that!! But isn't it nice to be home and banded? My surgery went well too, and the only discomfort I have is at the port site. I've started the full fluids part of the diet today and the first sugar free slimfast really tastes good. How long are you on clear fluids? Take care.
Betty
Hi Betty,
I'm glad everything went well with your surgery and that you're safe at home.
I am on clear fluids until Friday and then start the full fluids diet. I have been doing okay with just the clear fluids. I had Jell-O today and that was good. Sometimes I feel something pass through the band and it's a little painful. Do you feel that? Maybe it will all go away once everything is healed.
Rhonda
