Starting my Journey, so have some Questions?

Hey all I am just starting my weight loss journey. I have a full physical booked with my GP and he is going to send in my referral after that. He tells me there are two Doctors in Calgary preforming the Lap Band surgery and he will get me in with which ever one is taking patients quicker, but it will be a few month none the less. I have read through most of the posts here and quite a few bring up the Diabetes clinic here. I have a BMI of about 39, but other then high cholesterol I have few other health problems. My blood pressure is very low, normally around 100/60, no issues with blood sugars at all. I do have Hypothyroid Disease, but I have been treated for that for about 5 years now and I have dislocation of the hips. Will my lack of health issues be a problem with getting the surgery? Some one mentioned having to send in a form saying you have Diabetes and need weight management...well I don't have diabetes. I am assuming these are all questions my GP can answer, but thought I would ask here as well. I know the wait time is 1-2 years and that really doesn't bother me. I look forward to the Therapy, Exercise Programs and Nutritional Programs. It took me 7 years to gain this weight and if it takes a few years to take it off and keep it off, so be it. Thanks for any and all info you all can offer ;-)

Your GP won't be able to get you into one of the Calgary doctors. EVERYONE has to go throught the Diabetic/blood pressure/weight control clinic. From there, you may eventually see one of the 5 doctors who does the procedure. Here is the link to the doctors. Call them and they will let you know the procedure for being seen. I called all of them to see if I could skip the first step but it is the same for each surgeron. You start with the clinic. I was frustrated because other then being overweight I currently have no health issues. Thanks so much for responding. I was reffered to the clinic about 3 weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything as of yet. As with anything in life one can only wait until the time comes....and that's what I'm doing, LOL.
