I've sent an e-mail to AHC, but I'll post it here as well: If you go out of the country for Lapband surgery and you come home, if you have a problem and go to your family doctor do you think you'd be refused a referall to a local Bariatric specialist because the procedure was done outside the country or would they have to help you regardless. Any thoughts?

Hi Ramone, Have you had a reply yet from AHC? I would have to think that your family doc would be obligated to find you someone to help, even if you had to go to emergency. They could hardly make you get on a plane to Mexico if you need help. There are a lot of people who go to Ontario as well and that's probably just as far away for us in Alberta. If you need a doctor you need one, regardless of why. That's just my opinion, of course, maybe that's just what I hope would happen. When do you leave for your surgery? I'm going next Thursday and I'm getting very excited about it! Best of luck to you. Betty

Hi Betty, No word from AHC yet, but I agree with your comments. I guess I was curious if the band slipped or needed repositioning if you could get it done locally via referrel from the family doctor, etc. I also leave next Thursday morning... 7:00am flight. They will do all the pre-tests that evening and then I'll have the surgery the next day. Recovery for the day and heading home on July 1st. My emotional range starts at 'Yes, let's do it' and goes to 'am I insane???', then back again! Best of luck to you as well. I'm sure we'll be comparing notes about life after the band! BTW, did you ever get the name of the fill doctor you mentioned? Ramone
