What if? Anybody know?
Hi Betty,
Yes I am excited and nervous. I wi**** was time to go already. I just want it done so I can get on with everything. I also do not have to do the liquid diet pre-op. My doctor suggested a high protein low carb diet for the next two weeks. What type of WLS are you having? I am getting the LapBand.
Rhonda
Hi Rhonda, I'm also getting the lapband and I can't wait to get started with this new part of my life! I'm going to do the low carb thing for the next two weeks, if nothing else to get that nasty sugar out of my system, don't want to have to deal with sugar withdrawel and the surgery at the same time. This all happened very fast for me, have you been planning to do it for very long? It didn't seem real until I got the ok yesterday to take some time off work. I'm taking three weeks off, they say you don't need that much time but I want it. I don't get sick pay so I don't feel like I'm taking advantage of the company. Good luck with the diet, I've found with low carb/high protein after the first 2 or 3 days I lose the cravings and feel better. Have you done it before? Keep in touch.
Betty
Betty,
I started looking into some kind of WLS earlier this spring. When I saw the cost in Canada I thought I could never afford it. Then I found the ObesityHelp Saskatchewan website and began reading some posts of people that went to Mexico. Mexico? I thought surgery in Mexico sounded crazy. But the people that posted the message wrote about the great care and the clean hospitals. My husband was skeptical. I e-mailed a registared nurse in Saskatoon who had the surgery done with the same doctor that you are going to in Tujiana. She helped me make the decision. I was so tired of looking for the next thing to help me get motivated to lose weight AGAIN. I knew I needed something more.
I leave from Canada (Edmonton) on the 29th and have surgery that day. I am only staying until July 1st and then coming home. I am traveling alone and really just want to come home as soon as possible. I know that some people go for the holiday and then have surgery. But, I would rather do that when I have lost the weight and can really enjoy myself on the beach.
When I get back I have a week off from work. I go back to work for 4 days and then have another week off. I think this will work out good for me.
I have not done a high protein, low carb diet for a long time so I had to find a book with menus to follow. You are right about cutting out the sugars and carbs now. I never thought about that. It's a good idea and I'm going to do that too.
Talk to you soon,
Rhonda
Hi Rhonda, I had never really considered WLS and didn't even realize anyone would or could go to Mexico until I heard that my cousin had had the lapband there in January. She had such a great experience that she is now a patient facilitator for Dr Kuri here in Canada. So I started researching it and decided to go for it. My husband is coming with me, we're leaving on the 28th, have blood tests etc that day, then surgery on the 29th, returning on the 1st. We have a cruise booked in February and I'm really hoping to be much thinner by then.
Good luck with the low carb/high protein.Ttys

Hi TC,
Actually, some of the original threads on this topic list a few numbers. I'm going with Lite n'Free out of Monterrey for $8,000USD (and then I pay for flight on top). The best deal I've seen is with Dr. Joya for $8,000USD including flight. It seems that both places have excellent reviews, etc. As for AHC, some inquiries were made so it doesn't appear they would pay for much, but anything they do pay is gravy for me as this is all out of pocket!
