Hi Sherri, my name is Geri and I too had a similar experience. I had a VBG done in 1997 and lost 260 lbs. (my starting weight was 528lbs****pt it off for several years but I became bulimic and that is what helped me keep it off. I slowly began to regain the weight when I started eating things that would go down easy like mashed potatoes and creamy soups, ice cream, etc. After about 8 years I was back up to 400 lbs. I was urged by my doctor to have the procedure done because he had me convinced I was going to die if I didn't despite the fact I had no hypertension or high cholesterol or diabetes and being from a remote part of Nova Scotia, I found myself with no professional to consult with after I had it done. My doctor who was so gung ho to have it done had no idea what to do with me and help me with aftercare. I did not have internet resource like I have today to would  them and eventually I would be able to eat them. Foods like rice, pasta, meat, bread, raw veggies and fruit. Everything I tried to eat would make me vomit until my stomach was so burnt and raw I would live on creamy fatty foods. I moved to Alberta in 2006. I went to see Dr. Birch to see what was left of the procedure and found that everything was undone and I'm left with a gastro-gastric fistula that they told me they can't do anything for. I read about many people getting revisions after the VBG procedure that I had done so I was surprised how quickly Dr. Birch said he could not help me with a revision to get it fixed. I'd love to talk to you about your experiences. Please write back. thanks..Geri

I also had the gastric bypass surgery, and am back to my original plus more weight and less all my teeth because I turned to cola, candy, liqour and what ever else would stay down, plus acid erosion to my teeth from all the vomiting,I would suggest if you ever want to eat normal again to try your best to do it naturally, find a good nutritionist along with your doctor and do not give up,,20 years later and I am still fat (there was a time when I was a size 7(small for me)however the mirror still showed the 250 girl..The lapband I have heard is much better however get all the facts b4 and after the surgery..that was my biggest mistake..good luck

I have a appt with Dr. Daveys in Edmonton,Ab for May 2013. I was wondering if AHC pays for all procedures or only the cheaper ones. Also My GP says that they will now do the procedure to remove loose skin. Has anyone had AB Health Care do  this for them, again is it restricted in costs.  Also after first consult with dr. How long of a general wait before surgery. Do u have to prove u r self with a diet plan or how does it happen. Please someone I have many questions and cant wail til May til hear what is about to happen to me.  Thanks for listening?
