Hospital stay went well. I ended up staying 2 nights. I had some trouble with esophageal spasms which Valium helped with but otherwise did well. I slept through the next few days...sipping whenever I woke up.
now at 1week postop, taking all types of fluids and craving smooth foods!
how are things going now?

I am excited and looking for to being healthier and less self conscious about my size. My surgeon was so good when I saw him last Thursday. If a surgical suite opens he would like to do my VS this Friday. I start the all liquid protein pre op diet tomorrow. I am worried about gas and constipation on all this protein made with milk as a base. The dietitian really emphasized the need to use milk vs. Rice dream and a whey product vs. Vegan rice protein that I usually use. I am lactose intolerant.
i still need guidance on what to do about some sustained or extended release medications. I take a few medications that hospitals do not usually carry in their pharmacies. That include an expensive growth hormone that must be injected. I've been told not to bring any medications to the hospital.
For my cervical spine surgery a few years ago they had me being my growth hormone and keep it in the frig on the floor.
Can anyone share their experience with the post op period and their extended release medications and with injectible a not available in hospitals?
Now, to get through ten days of protein shakes! Go to keep my eye on the prize!

I got the Lap-Band in 2005 and it worked for about 2 years for me. I lost 120lbs with it (270 when I started, got down to approx 150). I loved it...until I didn't. Went for a fill one time and they overfilled it. It felt like I was stabbed in the chest. After that, it never worked right. I just forgot about it and wrote it off as an oh well, it was good while it lasted! Last year I got pregnant with my 3rd, I was approx 200 lbs and I gained nothing with my 3rd but I got severe GERD which everyone thought was because of the pregnancy but it turned out to be that the band slipped at some point when everything inside got shifted around cause of baby. I felt like I had to eat all the time to keep the acid at bay and so since the baby was born I gained 30lbs. It just kept getting worse and worse so in August I went to see my surgeon they did an EGD and my band was in bad shape. Cigna wanted me to do 2 separate surgeries if I wanted a revision but I fought to have it done in one. Took about 3 1/2 months but I won. Scheduled it 10 days after receiving the decision!!! I am starting to freak out now that I am on a full liquid diet pre-op. Did so much research I feel like I know everything but I am sure I know nothing, lol. My biggest fear is regain as well, but my doc told me that if I could lose 120 with the bad, that shows that I was compliant. He is a stickler for associating regain and failure with non-compliance. The hardest part for me is the no drinking with meals. But I did it with the band and only stopped after my restriction stopped. I am super excited and super nevous at the same time. Today I keep thinking something might go wrong and my babies need me, but my friends tell me that's normal. Truly hoping for a complication free surgery and speedy recovery.
Wish you lots of luck and same outcome as me. I wish I could have gone drinking but it caused me a lot of pain to do so with the GERD. Haven't had much of anything to drink in a VERY long time.
Today, 12/16/2013, marks day four of my liquid diet. Only ten more to go!
It has been incredibly trying these past few days & I expect it to get that much worse. I have been doing fairly well, despite being REAL hungry. I have been drinking around 94 oz of water a day but that is about normal for me to begin with. But not being able to eat has been just so tough!
I have been adjusting fairly well though to this soon to be new life. I have been out with my boyfriend & family. The temptation to eat is always there, of course, but I have been proud of myself for not biting the "apple", if you will.
I have been growing weaker thought as days pass. But when that happens I increase my soup intake. I am. It sure how much more water I can drink. But I have been throwing in flavored sf juices. As well as the occasional sf Popsicle. As well as jell-o. That has been my favorite forever & I am thrilled to pieces knowing that is one thing I can still have pre & post lapband.
Though the liquid diet has really truly sealed my fate I am just so happy that I will be able to see the light in ten, well counting today eleven, days!
but I have noticed an increase in the amount of time I suck my thumb, I'm chalking it up to hunger & nerves. But I have also been a little less irritable, unless I am hungry. I have also noticed that I read more and, if it is possible, faster!
i suppose as time continues I will have more to report.
I'm off for now, really hungry! Take care.
