December, 2013 Group

We have a growing list of people having their surgery next month.  Would anyone be interested if we form a group for ourselves (December, 2013 Surgery Buddies - or Pals, Friends or something else)?  We'll have a lot in common and be going through similar things at the same time.  I think it would be nice to have a group to go to and compare notes and support and encourage each other.

Please reply to this with your interest (or lack thereof).

I think that's a great idea!

I like that we'd have a place to go to connect with people who are at the same point in the journey...and like you said, compare notes, etc.

I'm on my way to Mayo for a day of pre-op appointments tomorrow (with another on next Tuesday).  I'll get our group set up by Wednesday at the latest!

I haven't had my surgery date confirmed yet but I'm hoping for a December date. I'd like to join the group.

I'm having my surgery in January, I live in South Bend Indiana  and was looking for a support group to go to. I cannot travel that far because my vehicle is having some problems at this time and I don't trust it to drive far. Is there any groups anywhere around here ? Thanks

I did a quick Google search and found that  Memorial Hospital at South Bend has a monthly support group for WLS patients.  Give them a call; hospitals that host support groups usually welcome everyone - even those that had their surgery elsewhere (and family and friends).  I know I am having my surgery 4 hours out of town, so going to their support group is out of the question.  However, Sarasota Memorial Hospital (in the town where I live) has a monthly support group and it's open to everyone, no charge.

Any large hospital near you that has a bariatric program will almost always offer a support group.  It's worth it to call and ask.  In the meantime, you are welcome to hang out with us here.  We have several members having their surgery in January.  My feeling is the more support and encouragement we get, the better!
