Topic: Post Op Frustrations...Pls Help
Hello, all! I am a newby.
I had my RNY on Dec 30th. Healing well, although still a little sore at the insicions. I am trying to do a little more each day, but find that I can easily over-do-it. Still trying to rebuild my stamina.
I am currently on my 3 wk liquid diet, anything low fat/sugar that will go through a fine mesh strainer. I have tried yogurt (thinned with soy milk), soups/broths, and of course protein shakes.
Most of the time I am okay, but recently I have had some really emotional days. Mostly, the depression seems to stem around the food cravings. After a week of being on this liquid diet, I am about to pull my hair out. I would do anything for solid food. Tonight, my mother and husband asked me to find something for them to cook from the freezer. After picking out their meal, I had a really bad breakdown.
Does anyone have any suggestions/tips on how to handle the emotions that are associated with the liquid phase of the post op period?
Also, I am on Prilosec, but seem to get heart burn every night. I have found that the heart burn starts about an hour after taking the Prilosec. Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks all!

Yes, my heartfelt trust and belief in the Buddha has been a source of strength and comfort for me.

Today is the first day I had tuna salad, and I am feeling fine. Went to the gym twice in the last four days.
So far I have lost about 16 or 17 pounds.
I look in the mirror and I still look fat - same chubby face and fat belly, but the scale says I'm losing weight ... maybe I'll see a differance in a few more weeks.

I just went back to work 2 weeks ago and it gets hard to follow the same routine as home. we have to realized that there will be times things will get in our ways but we have to deal with it as best as we can. keep it moving someday are better and some arent. I was doin good while I was drinking liquids only now I am eating and feel guilty of everything I eat and afraid I going to gain weight but that just me being paronoid.

32f is the size of the bougie used to make the size of my stomach. Surgeons usually go from 32f (for french, not sure why but that is what it is called) to 40f or larger. My stomach is supposed to be small, yet yesterday I ate all day, all day without feeling full at all or any restriction. Previously I could barely get any food or liquid in, yet yesterday I felt like I ate a ton of food.
I am still so darn tired. Zero energy.
Many surgeons keep their patients on full liquids for 3-4 weeks as this ensures no stress on the sutures. There is a belief that is prevents leaks by allowing the stomach to heal more. Additionally, it gets the patient used to less in their stomach. Kind of the same principles of why some surgeons do leak tests after surgery and some do not. Their experience says X.
Agree it is not a sprint, but need to make some mileage and I don't feel like I am at the moment.

I don't even know what a 32F is. Sorry! I feel like I don't feel any restriction/fullness at all. Confusing.
I find it strange how different people's post op diets are. I was on liquids for a day or two then went right to purees and after 2 weeks went to stage 4, veggie burgers, chili, tuna, other baked fish. I can't do fruit or veg for another month. Why so different? Must contribute to people losing so much so fast, if they are just on liquids.
I keep telling myself what my husband says, "It's a marathon, not a sprint."

I was feeling great, not hungry had energy. This week I am exhausted all day. I am getting my protein and I don't feel like I have any restriction. It has been the past 2 days. Up until then, I felt restriction. I am not losing any more either. I just started puree's this week too, so not sure if that is a contributing factor.
I cannot shake the feeling that I am going to fail at this too. My surgeon uses a 32F, so I shouldn't be able to eat that much, but feel like I did today.
Anyway, think just writing it down seems to make it more real.

Yes, I'm back at work as well. Teaching Kindergarten makes for a VERY full day. Amazed at this no hunger thing. Still having a hard time around 9 o'clock when the kids are in bed, thinking about pizza and chips and all things carbs. Hope I'm getting all my proteins but not freaking out about it. Still harboring the secret feeling that I am not going to loose weight.
