December 20 in my RNY date
One week from tomorrow my life will change for the better. I'll have my RNY surgery. What a blessing that will be. Later on, I can't wait to hear my doctor say, "Terry, you can stop your diabetic medicine now....you are free of diabetes".....oh such a glorious day that will be.
I am thankful I have a resource such as this to help me with my health. Medically, it hasn't been an easy road by any means, but hopefully, with God's help, there will be much healthier times ahead for me.
Wishing everyone who has, or has had, their surgery this month the very best.

Hi Maria,
Nice of you to post a response. Thanks. Wishing you a smooth and successful surgery yourself. I wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for God. I have SO much to thank Him for and He certainly is The One who I turn to for good and bad. How blessed all of us are to have Him in our life. Best wishes Maria!

Ladies,
Being believers, you'll both appreciate this:
As I was driving to my initial consultation with the surgeon, I was praying for God's will to be done, but also for it to be clear to me. I had to have surgery by the end of the year because my insurance is changing 1/1/11 and it will no longer be covered. And was really fretting the he wouldn't be able to fit me in.
When the surgeon asked when I would like the surgery, I said "your medical assistant said you have 12/20 open". He said "yes, the guy who was supposed to have surgery that day rescheduled this morning.'
WOW! Talk about making things clear for me!
Then I said "well now we know why, the date was being saved for me!" He said "actually I think it was something to do with his wife's work schedule." I said "that's what he thinks...." :D

Karyn,
How be ya? :)
It's ironic to me that we both had out RNY surgeries the same day, but more ironic to me is that my insurance runs out the end of this month too! I start medicare as of January 1st. I turn 65 on January 2nd. I'm SO thankful I was able to get this surgery done before my insurance ends.
I'm doing pretty good. Have a good amount of pain still, so am on pain med. I'm waiting to stop the narcotic and go onto Tylenol. Hopefully real soon.
I've been tired and my husband has helped me SOOOOO much. We just made some sugar free pudding. My first "solid"! I'm still on full liquids and won't advance to Stage 4 (Pureed****il I see my doctor in 2 weeks. That's okay with me. I still feel so bloated and hopefully that will lessen each day.
Hope you are fairing up well. I don't feel hungry, so that is a big plus. You take care friend and good health to you. Let me know how you're doing.

Hello fellow 12.20 patient !
I am wondering how you are doing? My RNY was Monday afternoon. I came home Wednesday late afternoon. I was on clear liquids for Sunday - Wednesday and today introduced pureed things ~ Greek yoghurt and blended lentil soup with chicken. It was hard to ingest enough over several hours + the liquids.
I am trying to wean off the meds and gain an appetite so i can make sure to get in the protein... I am still bloated and gassy and hoping the walkingis ridding my body fo the excess CO2. I also had my gall bladder out at the same time.
Any tricks? You feeling well?

Hi cookingirl,
I'm doing pretty good; hanging in there; though still have a good amount of pain yet. I'm SO surprised that your doctor has you already on blended soup with chicken and pureed foods. I'm still on full liquids, sugar free puddings, SF jello, my protein shakes, broths for 2 weeks. After that, then I am advanced to puree foods. I'm very much okay with the schedule and don't want to pu**** I just follow my doctor's program and so far, all is working very well. Wishing you the best! How's your pain level? I'll be going on the treadmill shortly to get my exercise in again. That's SO important. Hope all good things come your way! Glad to hear from you!!

Hi Terry,
My doctor LOVES Progresso Lentil Soup in the blender with Costco canned chicken blended in. I thinned it out with chicken stock so it was more runny. It has lots of protein! The canned chicken for 2 oz or 1/4 cup is 13 grams alone.
I am also doing SF pudding/jello, Greek yogurt, broths, water, tea and milk. No nausea except once in the hospital. No puking! :) I did have loose stools for a few days and now it seems more like my system is getting back into shape.
My pain has shifted from full abdomen to the left side only and now my back as well. I'm on the liquid narcotic/pain meds an weaning myself. Coughing hurts as does bending over, but walking is fine. I REALLY don't want to lose muscle!
My insurance plan renews on 1/1 so my follow up is at 10 days on 12/30 so I am covered.
Looking forward to chatting soon,
Annie

Hi,
I also had RNY surgery on December 20th. It went well. I was on a clear liquid diet in the hospital but my doctor told me to go on soft/blended foods after that. Things like greek yogurt, blended soups and so on. I am struggling getting enough protein in. I stopped the pain meds on day 4 and moved to tylanol. I stopped the tylanol as well on Christmas day. I don't have any pain anymore but I get tired pretty easy.
Glad to hear from others who share the same surgery day and out their faith in God as well.
Hope you have a Happy New Year
