Dec 15 RNY Charlotte NC
Hi, Well Surgery was last Wednesday, and today is Tuesday, that makes it about a week out. I'm feeling great. The first two days were tough, and I sure was glad to get home from the hospital. I got home Friday morning, about 10 a.m. and have been healing well ever since. It was hard to find a comfortable position to sit or sleep at first. I had no ab strength, so sorta rolled around on my back like a turtle. I took my pain meds Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then by yesterday, Monday, I didn't need them anymore. I've been walking on the treadmill real slow, like 2 to 2.5 MPH, for about 20 minutes. My left side kills me the most, that's where they insert the stapler and I have a huge dent in my side and a fairly long incision. It aches if I jiggle around to much.
Yesterday, I think I got hungry for the first time. It felt different, and maybe it was just head hunger. I did only have around 500 calories, but got in 74 grams protein, doing mostly protein shakes, and chicken soup (with added protein powder). I've been sleeping pretty good at night, and was taking a couple naps each day through the weekend. But now I'm off the pain meds I'm not as fatigued. I don't have much of an appetite. I can't tell the size of my stomach, as I'm on 100% liquids. My doctor won't put me on any solids until after 2 weeks.
Oh yea, I gained about 11 lbs in the hospital and it's taken me a week to lose tha****er weight. No real weight loss yet aside from what I accomplished pre-op. Looking forward to being able to exercise more vigorously.
Good luck on the 28th. What hospital are you going to? If Presbryterian in Charlotte, I have advice for you. We may need to talk by phone, as I don't want to air a lot of issues on the website.
I'm feeling great. Can't say yet the impact has connected with me, as I'm still in recovery mode. I'm looking forward to losing some real weight and exercising more. I still feel kinda achey. I'm on a liquid diet until the end of the month, then I progress to purees, then after a few weeks, some solids. I'm taking it slow, as the liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op helped my lose about 10 lbs. Can't complain, not really hungry now (not like pre-op).
