Topic: Back from RNY 12/7
I had my RNY 12/7 and so far so good I guess. I was going to get released yesterday but just before being discharged around 6pm started getting lots of pain. I was over due on pain meds and pretty sure it was just gas pain. Surgery was at 8, and I was in my room and then up walking around by 1. It still doesn't even feel real. I've been trying to sip and so far it's going ok, I just have very little urge to drink or eat. Good luck to everyone else!

Oh I didn't mean to scare you...with my post op whining....haha.
I just didn't bounce back like I thought I should have...I forget I am 55 years old...Youth is no longer on my side....So...I am bouncing back a little slower....Forging forward.
Keep me posted...You sound so upbeat...
I am on soft foods right now...its definitely a challenge...Gotta love those scrambled eggs. though.

Thats awesome!
I remember reading your intial posts and I have to say they scared me a little bit about how bad I may feel after waking up after surgery. Then i remembered everyone is diffrent and it will be diffrent for all of us who take this journey. I was very lucky and didn't have to do the pre op liquid diet. I was supposed to at first because my BMI was 51 and my surgeon requires anyone BMI 50 and over to do that pre op diet. The pre op diet they offered (opti fast) was $300 and besides I with all the headaches I have now from not eating I knew I couldnt go that long with out real food. I lost about 23 pounds on my own with about 5 of it coming from a bout with the flu back in early oct. So I saved a little money which I spend on protien supplements and stuff to eat after coming home from surgery. I can wait to join everyone here on the otherside on the losers bench.

Everyone sounds so happy and enthusiastic!
I am still overjoyed. I did have more post-op pain
than I expected in 1 of 6 surgery sites...only when trying to sit or
lie down. ( Moral...keep walking!) I definitely would do it again
if I thought there would be 100 X the discomfort!
As I am allowed more food choices I have been afraid that
I wouldn't be able to stop eating. It is a w o n d e r f u l
feelingto look at your few tablespoons of food....think it won't be
enough...and half way through have to decide if you should
stop because you're full and satisfied!!
Good luck to all!

Topic: Preop with Northside Hospital-Dr. Macik Office in Atlanta Georgia-Who has had this and what 2 expect
I just had a general question. Does or did anyone have Dr. Macik in Atlanta, Georgia @ Northside Hospital as their surgeon? How was the pre-op with Northside Hospital and what are all the things they check? Because my friends and family smoke I know I have been catching alot of second hand since Ive stop smoking but does Dr. Macik give a Nicotine test during the pre-op with Northside and what do I need to expect?

Wow your post is amazing. I got banded on November 23, 2009 and they kept me over nite...
You sound so upbeat...I was having issues when I got home (self doubt) but your post is inspirational.
I just went to the doc for follow up yesterday....16 pounds down...I am feeling better about being banded.
First Fill in January.
Good Luck to you!!!

Wow Melissa....Good Luck to you...!!! I didn't meet with my surgeon again until the morning of surgery so you were lucky to meet with yours. I met with a Resident during PAT however, I didn't feel comfortable with him.
AND I felt the same way....I was questioning my motives, can I do this afterwards, I think I walked around in a state of shock for the 10 pre surgery liquid diet...I was in shock because I was actually going forward with it...
But I did go forward with it....3 days before Thanksgiving....AND you wake up from surgery with lots more questions but...I came here and posted my anxieties and nice people calmed by fears...
The best thing they told me was to Walk, walk, walk (of course, you will hear that till your sick of hearing it).
AND then someone else told me on the 4th day after surgery...you start to feel so much better about everything...the surgery, the life changes, the band...
I just met with the doc yesterday (my surgeon) and I am down 16 pounds...So that's a yay!!!!

Topic: RE: pre op liquid diet
I feel so lucky after reading all of the post. I am only on a full liquid diet for 3 days, I statr this Saturday. During this time I need 80 proteins a day and only on the last day starting at noon am I restricted to clear liquids. My hardest part I know will be on Saturday when my wife and I go to our great-grandsons first birthday party.
