Hello, this is my first time on this site, but I know it will not be my last.  I have a date set for RNY surgery (12-15-09) - I guess this is all a reality now.  I am a bit nervous. Anyone else have young kids who has a little apprehension about their up-coming surgery?

Hi Suzanne:

Congrats on your date.

I have 2 boys ages 4 & 6 and I will be telling them about the surgery before my date 12/8.

Right now I'm confirming babysitter schedules and making sure the boys will have fun activities to do when I'm unavailable.

I am nervous but also have been keeping my worry to today and not overwhelming myself with the what ifs right now.  I feel better when I have a plan.

good luck & post your progress

Hi Kerry,
Thanks for the reply, it is nice to know there are others who are in the same boat.  My kids are not as little as yours; my daughter is 15 and my son is 10.  Dad is taking off for the 3 days I will be away, so that helps.  I start my liquig diet tomorrow which means I am a week away from the big day.  I cannot believe how fast the time went.  I guess by the time you read this you will be on your way to a new life, I just realized your date is the day I start my liquid diet.  I wish you all the best, I will look for your posts to see how you are doing.  Good luck to you - keep me posted.

My surgery is Dec 16th - I have two girls (3 & 6) and I am making arrangements for their care while DH is working, etc - I am INCREDIBLY nervous - the closer it gets the more scared I feel! There are a lot of things that I am nervous about.  I am going to TRY to just froget about all of the what-ifs, and just barrel through the "process" - what's the point of worrying about all of the "what if's" and "how and I going to deal withs" - I am prepared and educated - I guess that we just need to trust in the decision we made when we started this journey.  *sigh* But it really IS hard and I really AM nervous!

Hi, thanks for replying to my post.  If it helps, it seems everyone is nervous about the surgery - we are, after all, human.  I think you are correct in saying we did our homework, and now we have to trust that we made the right decision for ourselves.  If we were not good candidates, the doctors would have told us.  Think of all of the things you will be able to do that you have not been able to do in a while.  I keep thinking of what I will look like in "normal" size clothing.  I cannot wait for that.  This is a long journey, but one that will have it rewards in the end.  Your surgery date is the day after mine, so I will not be able to wish you good luck then, so good luck to you!  We are NOT alone in this, just look at all of the postings for December alone.  Life will be better.  TTYL

I don't think I could add much more. I feel the same way. I do have a 10 month old at home who is stuck to me like glue. I don't know who it will be harder on to be apart him or me. Then not being able to hold him after. Luckily I have 2 teenagers to help as well.  So scared and nervous but very very excited as well. Trying to just roll with it. God has finally answered my prayers and I am going to run with it. Good luck to you all and Happy Holidays.

Hi Tracy,
Thanks for responding to my post.  You were one of three people who wrote to me to say good luck.  I have a 15 year old and a 10 year old - not babies, but still very much in need of mothering.  I am also excited, excited to see the changes that will take place over the next year or so.  I am also excited and scared - but I still need this.  I start my liquid diet tomorrow, I know that will not be easy with having to feed a family.  I know I can do it, I just have to trust in myself.  I hope to connect with a few people again over the next week to see how things are going.  Have a great week.

Your day should be done by the time you get this. I hope all went well and you are doing great! I am into my 2nd week of liquid diet. I hate it. Have turned most of the cooking over to my husband. It's getting easier but sometimes certain things just smell so good lol. I have lost 13lbs so far with just liquids. Dr. wants 5 more by Tues. Seems weird to know I only have 5 more days to go!!
Its really hard to know my babys first Christmas will be spent among relatives instead of home with us, but I wanted to get this so over with. He wont even remember it so its just my own guilt. My 2nd wedding anniversy is New years eve. Won't be doing much celebrating this year with that either lol. I just am thankful that because of this surgery I will be around to see many more occasions than just these few.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Post and let us know how you are.
