I received the call from my surgeon's office yesterday- one day after my 40th birthday. I am so excited to have surgery. This is going to be the best (and most difficult) thing I have ever done for myself. YEEE HAWW!!!!
I am going to ride and show my horse again.
I am going to live a healthier life.
I am going to be a positive role model for my daughter.

congrats on your date! I am scheduled for DEC 3 and my 50th birthday is the 8th. I am looking forward and a little scared about doing this, but on the bright side I will be off during the holidays. Good luck!!

Thanks! Congrats to you too! I agree. I just shared at a staff meeting today that I will be out from Thanksgiving to January 4th. I have several sick days and I plan to use them during the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery. If I change my mind... I can always go to work if it is harder to sit at home. Thank goodness the girls at the office are supportive of what I am doing. They get that the two weeks prior to surgery will probably be the worst two weeks of the whole process!

It is nice to know we have the time off to enjoy recovering with our families during the holidays. I hope you have an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!

Thanks. Will you be getting your surgery at St. Vincent's in Carmel? My sister had lap RNY there in June and her experience was so wonderful! I am a bit envious that my insurance won't cover me if I go there. I was able to go with her to her full day of pre-op classes. That will be most helpful to me!
Good luck to you as well. I would like to tell you that I will be thinking of you on your day but... who knows what shape I will be in 24 hours after surgery.

I am going to have mine at St Vincent.  Dr M Inman is my Surgeon, having the Laproscopic RNY.  I have only seen her one time, but the staff  has been fabulous.
I imagine you will not be feeling much like thinking of anything for a day or two after the surgery,  don't worry about it.

best of luck to both of you,, My doctor did not say anything about a liquid diet before surgery. I go for a egd on nov 19. I was approved for both surgeries lap band and roux-n-y. It was a hard decision to make. I really like the sweets and it seemed like from what I read alot of people after a few years go to the r-n-y later. I don't want to go through surgery twice.

Be thankful you don't have to do the liquid diet. My sister didn't have to do one except for the day before surgery and she said that was the worst day of her life! I am so blessed to get to have 14 of those!
I agree that is seems like there are a lot of revisions and that impacted my decision making as well. I also know that I didn't want to be traveling over an hour to my doctor for fills for the rest of my life. It is a very difficult decision to make and one just must make the best decision for their own cir****tances and lifestyle.
I am so ready..... I am excited to get to start 2010 as a "brand new woman!"

I am excited to to start the new year with new goals that can be met! What kind of diet have you been told that you will be eating 3 weeks post op. I think I need to go in for another doctor visit. on my last pre-op visit it was when I was planning on the lap band. I am now getting the roux-en-y at the advice of my doctor and alot of deep soul searching. I had been talk to about all of the info for lap band until that day. now i need all of the info for the other procedure. thanks for your replies!!

My surgeon requires a 14 day "liquid" diet prior to surgery. In a 24 hour period I can have 2 protein shakes, 20 oz. of skim milk, 2 cups frozen vegetables, steamed, and 2 medium sized pieces of fruit. This diet is suppose to help shrink the fatty liver which will make surgery much easier to perform. I understand but I tell you this will be the worst 14 days! everyone that has the surgery with my doctor has said the same thing.
Don't worry though. Each surgeon has their own pre and post surgery requirements. You will hear and read many different things on here. Just follow your surgeon's requirements because no matter how hard it may be, you don't want to jeopardize your surgery.
