Welcome home! Glad to hear you're recovering well. I'm finding the pain meds less and less necessary.. Thank God! I still have some serious soreness but nothing like what it was on days 1 and 2! Get some rest, sip, sip, sip, walk and remember that protein! Merry Christmas! Julie

Glad to see you back and recovering! I"m sorry to hear about the bleeding but I am sure you are correct about the blood thinners making it worse. The cold is hanging out here as well and it makes it really difficult to try to go out and walk. I'm also scared of falling on the ice so I've been walking around my folks' house. I look pretty silly. lol Keep up on tha****er. I'm having a hard time with remembering to sip, sip sip until I'm thirsty, thirsty, thirsty. Not good! Anyhow.. welcome home! Julie

I think you ought to trust your doctor. If I had to guess I'd say that your body is looking at things (right now) like starvation and is attempting to hold on to stuff to live. Also, you probably have a lot of "stuff" still stuck in you. I know my doc filled me with saline at the end of the surgery on top of all of the gas during the surgery. I feel like my belly is much larger right now because I can't hold it in. Give it time, stick to the program.. get your protein in and I"m sure you'll be fine! It'll start coming off soon!

I am just curious...

I am now one week past my RNY.  I have not eaten food for 9 days now....

AND I HAVE NOT LOST ONE POUND!!!!

My doc tells me not to worry.  Sorry, but I don't want to think that I just rewired my insides for no damn reason at all.

Has anyone else had this experience??

My gas started on the second day after surgery and was accompanied by the oh so lovely diarrhea. Fortunately, a friend had warned me that I would "poop on myself" so I was afraid to pass gas anyhow! LOL I managed to do all my gas passing in the bathroom. It has been pretty consistent, about every 6 hours. ANd wow.. the LOUD rumblings in my gut woke me up last night. It didn't hurt at all but boy was it every loud. It was a good warning to head to the restroom... again! lol Today, I'm still sore but don't feel quite as much need for the pain meds. However, one of my incision sites feels very sore and I am REALLY itchy from the binder. I don't want to take it off, though, because then my insides hurt really bad. But boy does it ever itch! I've scratched holes in my skin in some spots. Probably not good, eh? I haven't tried pudding. I"m worried that it might be too thick. My doc said to get one protein drink in per day right now. Then, after day 11 I need to shoot for 2. He said that I should definitely NOT do it in the morning because it will cause nausea AND it will make me so full I won't do my other liquids and then I"ll end up dehydrated. So.. I've had jello, water and coffee with equal. I'll be taking my protein shake with me. Other than that.. all's well on the farm. :-) I won't get to see my doctor until 4 weeks out because he had the nerve to take vacation during the third week! lol I did give him a hard time about that too! In any case.. I'm glad to be back here and looking forward to sharing success stories with everyone!

Topic: Back from the Hospital (RNY 12-22)

I got back from the hospital on Wednesday, Christmas eve.  Fortunately, the driving was okay.  We have been having bouts with snow or freezing rain.  Tuesday, when my DH came to see me, it took him 2 hours to get to the hospital.  Normally, the drive should have been about an hour on streets or about 40 min on expressways.  When we left the hospital yesterday, it was in the low 30's.  This morning it is -1 degrees.

I got my J-P drain out at the hospital.  The diarrhea started yesterday and is continuing today.  I haven't had any protein yet.  I will start that today.  At the hospital, I had a lot of water.  At night, I was given a glass of apple juice.  I also got a SF popsicle while there.

When they took the IV out yesterday, it looked like it was going to bleed just a little.  A moment later, while I was in the WR, blood was everywhere.  I went looking for a nurse and she got the bleeding stopped.  I imagine the blood thinners made it worse.

Happy Holidays to everyone!
