Topic: RE: Well, I made it home!!
I guess I should count myself pretty lucky! My gas has been rumblings.. very, very loud rumblings and my pain honestly never really went above about a 5 and that was when the meds were wearing off. I started having my bm's on the second day out and passing large amounts of gas then. So... the gas pain I have had (and it's been doozies) has come from re-learning what means "full" to me now. Right now I"m eating some cream of tomato soup made with milk and some melted cheese (just a little tiny bit). I didn't have any meat that i thought would be good blenderized in so the protein should probably be higher. However, I did get down nearly a whole protein drink today, so it's a start!
I'm also tired. I'm not used to this. Though, I guess with what our bodies have gone through it shouldn't be suprising to be exhausted. I just slept all the way home from visiting my grandmother. (My husband, kids and my folks all went but my dad drove so I slept there and back!) lol Gotta love those in-car DVD players for the kiddies!
In any case.. keep up the good work. Merry Christmas and a VERY happy new year to you!

Glad to see you are back! I was starting to wonder if I needed to worry!
Our new lives are ahead of us. We'll get through this minor hump and be truly healthy from here on out!

Topic: RE: MrsScarlet, are you home yet???
I'm sorry, I was supposed to post for Ms. Scarlett when I got home and today's the first time I've felt like being on the computer.
I talked to her at the hospital yesterday and she had a kind of rough time. She lost quite a bit of blood that they couldn't find the cause of, and then ran a fever. When I talked to her yesterday (Christmas eve) she sounded pretty good... but wasn't pushing to get released, yet.
Hopefully she will be posting on here before too long. Sorry i didn't get to it! Nancy

I was 255 at surgery on 12/18, gained 8 lbs from the surgery so was at 263 on 12/19. This morning I was 242. I did the liquid thing for a few days, then 2 nights ago I added some SF Jello Instant pudding. Eating just 2 or 3 spoonfuls very slowly. Yesterday I took about 2 ounces of Hormel Natural Selection chicken breast strips, threw them in the blender, added some FF chicken gravy, put in a small pan in the oven, some FF shredded cheese on top. Only ate about 4-5 bites. Had the leftover for lunch today. I have been drinking a lot of water, taking my vitamins, aspirin and prilosec. Not doing good with the protein shakes but am going to GNC tomorrow to see what I can find for protein.
I move around a lot, have taken several walks in the snow with my dog. My gas is almost gone and I am pooping.
I should tell you I do not have a NUT. I have just been reading and researching and kind of trying a little at a time.
Hope it helps?
Merry Christmas!!

I still find it amazing how different all our docs are! I had lap RNY on 12/22 and went home the next day. I really wanted to stay at least another day -- I was sore, in terrible gas pain, exhausted and so on. You all know the feeling. But my doc said recovery would be faster at home than in the hospital (probably since I can rest all I want without being woken every 2 hours by the nurses to take my vitals!)
I can only have clear liquids (no protein or anything else****il Saturday. Todays the first day I can have 2 oz per hour instead of 1 oz (that's a teeny medicine cup to sip over the course of an hour!) Actually, its not as hard as I thought it would be.

Yep - WELCOME HOME!!! I was also on 12/22 and was home at 6:30pm on 12/23. The gas - from the very start the pain level varied from severe discomfort to 9 on the pain scale, except when they gave me dilaudin by IV. It was only in one consistent place on my side, so I was sure it wasn't gas, but dr explained that they need to pump in extra air to see what they're doing so it wasn't like normal gas in my digestive tract. Finally yesterday the loud gurglings started and gas and bm's as well, so I'm feeling a little bit better. I'm extremely tired though - like I've run a marathon. I wanted to quickly check my email and forum and then I will lie down again.
I graduated from 1 oz clear liquids per hour to 2 oz. I can start full liquids on Saturday (whi*****lude pudding). I can't wait for that!
Speedy recovery to all of you!

Congrats on returning home! Yes, the gas (and the acid) can be a bit painful but it should all be worth it in the end!
