Topic: Trip to the ER and bad news
So I end up going to the ER last night because of INTENSE pain near my lower left lap incision.  It was more surface so I figured it wasn't serious but the docs on call wanted to make sure it wasn't a clot.  So, after 5 hours at the ER the pain is still unexplained.  BUT>>> lucky me!!!  The did a CT Scan to rule out an obstruction and discovered that I have a mild case of pancreatitis (probably from the surgery) and gallstones.  YAY!  NOT!

I called the Bariatric Center today to follow up and of course the doctor wanted to see me.  (I was supposed to return to work today.  My Lap RNY was 2 weeks ago and my surgeon said I needed to take off two weeks.. I teach.)  Soooo.. long story longer... the gallstones are apparently quite large and the doc indicated that I will need surgery to remove the gall bladder.  But, since my RNY was so recent, they don't want to do the surgery now especially since I'm not in pain (yet!) from the gallstones.

So.. I guess the question is this.  If they KNOW that this surgery leads to gallstones in 80% of patients and you CAN  live without the gallbladder... why don't they just remove it as a matter of course when they do the RNY?  Now I'm terrified that this will end up being an emergency surgery when I end up in excrutiating pain from the gallstones!  I'm so very glad that I have this to look forward to!!!!

Well I hope everyone is doing well.  And I'll be praying for you pinky. Im doing okay, havent weighed since the first wk visit.  I cant seem to drink all the water Im suppose to be drinking. And for some reason I can eat or should I say drink soup and about 20 to 30 minutes later Im hungry again!   Is that normal!  I feel like Im constantly wanting to nibble on things.  Is it a mind deal or what?  Its been almost a month in 3 days.

It's so weird - I have a little patch on my stomach, but nowhere near my incision.  The big one is on the back of my left arm.  It's not close to where the IV was.  The only thing I remember is that I had a few insulin injections in that area... but for it to start up two weeks after I left the hospital?!?!

I saw my surgeon today and he was surprised about it too.  Leave it to me ....  I gotta be unique...

I'm on antibiotics and I have to follow up if it doesn't improve in a day or two.

Congratulations!  Way to go!

I had my surgery on 12/4/08 and am very pleased with my progress thus far - 43 lbs off.

I'm still learning to figure out when I'm full and to eat at a slower but every day it gets better and better.

I'm glad I decided to have WLS.  I'm feeling a lot better, physically, too.

Kristy -

It is adult tylenol - 1 oz is the dosage.  It's an icky cherry flavor, but whatever.  Make sure you don't get the Tylenol PM (although the vanilla flavor was much more appealling!)

Yaktrax - I got rid of mine.  Didn't work for me.  I'm glad they work for you in Boston!!
