Congratulations on the weight loss.  That is so exciting!

I had my post-op dr's visit today too.  I am down over 20 pounds since my last dr's visit in December and down over 63 pounds since September.

I have to be at least another week.

I graduate to pureed foods starting today.  We stopped at Whole Foods to get some Greek yogurt, some kefir, some organic soups, cage-free eggs, and some V8 type of juice.  We also stopped at Wendy's and got an order of chili.  I pureed some and feasted on 4 oz of that an hour ago.

Take care and keep up the good work!

I had RNY surgery on 12/9/09 and am down 22 lbs. But I am still wearing my drain because I have a leak, so I cannot exercise. I am working full time however in a demanding job, so that's enough exercise for me right now.  I'm sure I'll lose more when the drain comes out. But slow and steady wins the race, right?

I turned out to be the 1 percent that had a leak.  It was discovered at my 7 day post-op appointment and was not observed during surgery despite doing the leak tests intraoperatively.  So my surgeon says I have to wear the drain as the leak is healing. He assured me I don't need another surgery and that all leaks eventually heal. But I'm probably wearing this thing until February. I guess I'd rather the gunk out of my body through a drain than inside and giving me an infection or something, but this IS a real pain. What can you do? Nothing. I still don't regret doing this and know that in the end, it will be worth it.

I talked to the PA this morning, she said it definately sounds like the muscle and it was probably pulled while I had my few bouts of throwing up, all the strain that puts on it. She said it can take 2-3 weeks go feel better. Lovely!  In the meantime, she called in a RX for a few more pain pills. I'm trying to wear the binder more often to help too.

Hope you feel better soon!

I am two weeks out (as of yesterday) and have virtually no pain.  I went back to work yesterday and did fine.  I had no drains at all, thank goodness, those are awful things!  Have had them before, I was miserable with them.

Hugs,
Marsha

I don't know if "happy" is the right word to describe how I feel about the CT Scan.  lol  I mean, I guess I'm glad to know what's going on so that it can be monitored.  But.. at the same time I"m aggravated that they didn't check before surgery to just remove the gb while they were in there.

The pancreatitis is, they believe, just from the surgery.  They said that letting the pancreas "rest" should do the trick.  Though, my bariatric doctor put me back on the  purees when I saw him for the follow up yesterday.  Boy was I glad too because I have just started, in the past two days, to experience hunger again.  Though that does make it hard to avoid the stuff I know I"m not allowed to have just yet!

Other than this stuff, I feel great!  The only pain i have is from the hematoma and it's not constant though it is severe when it flares up.  I'd have LOVED to go back to work.  But when I went to the ER follow up they said two more weeks. So... now I'm really missing my students and feeling like I've abandoned them.  I was told two weeks otherwise I would've waited until summer to do the surgery!!  C'est la vie!

I can't see the hematoma but the doctor says he can feel it under the skin near the incision.  The pain I have is very, very near to the surface feeling.  It doesn't feel muscular... it feels like it is a knife in the fatty tissue that someone puts acid on and causes an intense burning feeling.  That's the best way I can describe it.  My is right, almost exactly on, near the lower left incision from the lap surgery.

Hope that helps!  Keep us posted with what the nurses tell you!  If it continues I'd make an appt with your surgeon's office to have it checked just to be on the safe side.

Can you see the hematoma, like a bruise? How does he know that's what it is, from a test?  I'm wondering if that's what I have rather than muscle strain/pain.  Mine starts just to the left of the belly button at the waist line and then lower.  I called the surgeons nurse line yesterday but they didn't call back. Will have to follow up again today.
