Hey everybody,

Wassup?  It's been a long time since I have been on the board.  My apology and I will try to do better.  I just got my 3rd fill yesterday and I have having difficulty swollowing.  I did not experience this on the first two fills.  It feels like I am "sliming" a lot.....most you you lapbandsters know what that is I am sure but for the rest of you who may not know....its disgusting and its like a big bubble of saliva.......Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how long did it last?  I have a call in to my Doctor and if this does not get better I will go back in and have some of the fill removed.....your thoughts will be most appreciated.  take care, Rob

Rob,

Yes, I have been down the same course. I wish there ws a simple answer but there isn't. It depends on several factors. Here' s my take. See if any one or more apply to you.

#1. The band may be too tight. When it is too tight the answer is to remove fluid. I would look at the below items before I have any fluid removed.

#2. You are eating too fast and not chewing your food enough. As the band tightness, the rules change. You may have been able to slide things by before but now you need to get the food into small digest-able pieces. After each fill, you learn a little more about your band.

#3.Fibrous Food - I have found that more fibrous food gives me issues. After several fills, I began having problems with broccoli, asparagus, lean beef, dry chicken. Try staying clear of this stuff or work on chewing better.

#4. Food on the "no" list - I assume you are avoiding bread and pasta. They can make you slime in no time flat.

I learned over this past year that your body sends you signals and you need to follow them. If avoiding the bad food and chewing properly don't do the job, I would suggest you speak to your surgeon about getting a slight unfill.

Hey Tom,

Thanks for taking the time to provide me with valuable information.  I was following all of the rules and the answer was/is I was filled too tight.  The day before I had received 1cc and that was probably .75 too many cc's.  My doctor removed the 1cc and I am returning in two weeks to get a .25 fill.  Let me tell you, that experience taught me a well learned lesson.  You can definitely be overfilled and its miserable.  I could not even swollen my saliva.  I did test the fill out before leaving the office that day but what I did was take a little sip followed by a little bit larger sip.  Never again, if I cant take a large drink before leaving the office, the fill will be reduced.  Anyway, Lesson Learned.  Again, thanks so much for replying....take care, Rob
