Working out

I have not done much with working out that also a reason I have not lost as much as you DEC surgeries.  I need a good pep talk.  I am by myself and find it hard to get motivated to work out
I live in Riverside CA and was wondering if there are any groups or walking buddies that would be interested in meeting to walk. Or anyone that can knock some sense into me :)

Any suggestions? What should I be doing for exercises?

Ann,

You are not by yourself.  I had surgery a week and half ago and I don't have any energy to move my butt.  Chores around the house keep me tired.  Just look at working out as a prescription, just like a med.  It helps you release endorphins that keep us happy and moving.  Move at least 30 mins a day. Good luck.

Hey you want a walking buddy. I will help you out. Just one problem. I am kinda far away, so can I be  little late.lol

We are both in the same boat. I don't want to exercise ,and right now dont have the time to.  Maybe we can motivate each other some how. Tho head are better than one. (think thinkthink,. I am sure we can work this out. pun intended.

I was thinking. When I was on Men's Health Forums, there was a [person who would smite an offender/ slacker to get him motivated. He was Sargeant Smiter. He used to scream and yell to moitvate people. It was actually kind funny, but he always made  a point to find out the root cause of the persaon's problem. If you can imagine R Lee Emry  MAIL CALL) on the net.

I wish I lived near you - I am in the same boat.  I need someone to knock some sense into me.  I have never begun to exercise (once or twice doesn't count) and am starting to graze and snack - which explains why my scale hasn't moved in a month or so.

I need a swift kick in the butt.

Join a gym with a pool.  The end of January I went and just walked in the pool for 10 minutes.  After 3X's I increased it to 15 minutes, etc.  When I hit 45 minutes I decided to try a stationary bike.  It has a TV attached and I was on it for 10 minutes.  Then I increased the time every now and then until I hit 30 minutes.  One day I decided to try the treadmill.  I am now at 25 minutes on a treadmill.  I am now eying the elliptical.  Once I started the bike I also started weights.  My GYM has computerized weights so you know how much you lift.  My first try was 3,100 LBS.  Yesterday was a personal high of 14,400 LBS.  Start SLOW and you won't be discouraged.  JUST START!!!!  You will love it after awhile.  Good Luck.......Kathy

I say start walking for small stints right now, and before you know if you will build up to 30 minutes, 60 minutes, etc. Exercise releases those "feel good horomones" known as endorphins which naturally make you happy. If you can walk outside, soak up some Vitamin D from the sun and get double your happy dose for the day! I belong to a gym and I love to do classes... yoga, Zumba, pilates, and spinning are some of the options out there. For me, it is important to find an exercise that encompasses my natural talents- I am flexible, so yoga is a natural fit for me, and I love to dance, so Zumba is a great fit too! There is something out there for everybody... including you! You deserve it, go ahead and treat yourself to a double scoop of fitness!
