Hi, thanks for the compliment.  Out of curiousity, how many days a week and for how long are you now walking?  I'm sure upping my exercise would help, so I'm gonna focus on that.

I never did take beginning measurements, but I've got from size 28 pants to 24 or 22 depending. I'm definately happy about that.  First time in YEARS I've had to wear a belt, which is a good feeling.  I gotta get out that tape measure. :-)

Congrats on how well you've done so far, the inches lost is amazing, as is 50lbs! YEA!!

I started walking 1 time around a local park which was .71 miles. I did that for about 2 weeks. Now I usually walk about 2-3 miles when it is cold, (like today brrrr, my nose is still cold) and I walk at least 4 miles on warm days. No matter the weather or how I feel I always drag myself outside, I always feel better afterwards and my dog loves the daily walks! I also do about 150 reps on an ab lounger at least a couple times a week and just yesterday joined a new fitness club opening tomorrow called Anytime Fitness. I plan on being there everyday and still walking. I am determined to hit -100 by July 4.
Let me know after you measure, I GUARANTEE you are going to be pleasantly surprised!!

Kristy,
I know how you feel, I have only lost 5 lbs in a few weeks, it must be a stall. I increased my water and that has helped and I am losing inches. So I guess it is inches when you don't lose weight. I am walking but I don't get cleared for exercise til the end of this month. I had an open RNY and my doc doesn't want me to get a hernia. So when I start to exercise that may help too. Good luck with those scales, they are evil! lol

Hi Kristy,

We certainly understand and we don't mind those "I'm not losing weight posts".  My husband had RNY 1 year ago.  He lost 5 pounds a week every week til he reached his goal.  I on the other hand.....well I have to say that I cry to him at least once a week that I am not losing weight.

But you got some good advice here.  I also have problems with my knees and the pain is worse since my RNY but I have found other ways to exercise.  I had been at a stall and then very slow for another week.  I did what Tom said, upped my protein intake and increased my water.  And I ate different food.  It worked.  I lost alot more for the past 2 weeks.  Everyone is different but this seems to help.

Good luck and I think you look beautiful in your picture.  Your weight loss is definitely noticeable.

My weight fell off fast during the first 3 weeks and now it's just slow, slow, slow.  I think my body is trying to compensate and/or I need to exercise (I haven't been).  The last month I only lost 5 lbs, so you've got me beat there!   I have almost 200 lbs left to lose so I've got a long way to go.

I've read a lot of posts and it seems like a lot of u**** plateaus like this - at least I'm HOPING it's temporary.  So don't get discouraged and don't weigh yourself too often.  As long as it's going DOWN and not up, you're good.  And yes, that muscle you're adding is heavier than fat and eventually it'll rev up your metabolism and increase your weight loss.

Good luck - and keep posting - it's good to know there are others like me!

Kristy,

I know exactly how you feel because at first I thought I was a slow loser and even said the same thing you did "I could have lost this much on weigh****chers" then one of the posters on the RNY board  said up you water and protein and I did.  I now drink 90 oz. of water and take in about 100 to 110 grams of protein( I use protein shakes) and the weight started falling off.
I now lose anywhere from 4-7 lbs a week.  I have only lost 7 lbs in a week once.  But on average lose 4-5 lbs each week.  The only things I have changed were those two things, water and protein.  Try it.

Wow, that's an impressive weekly weight loss!!  What is an example of what you might eat in a day to get yourself up to 100 g protein?  I really need help it seems.  The last two days I know I've been way over 64oz water, so that's good. Now if I could just up the protein.  And are you exercising?

I do 3 protein shakes a day.  One first thing in the morning then around 12:30pm I will have a light lunch/snack such as deli turkey with cheese or I have 1/2 a salmon burger from Costco with a little cottage cheese or maybe some shrimp with cottage cheese. Basically any kind of meat will be protein.  Then around 3:30 ish I will have another protein shake. Then I eat a small dinner around 6:00 pm.  It's usually meat with cottage cheese or maybe meat with a little veggie.  Example would be last night I had 1/2 of a shish kabob at a family BBQ.  I ate the 2 pieces of steak and the two pieces of zucchini.  Then at around 8-8:30 I have my last protein shake.  Depending on which type of protein shake I use. Each shake is between 24-30 grams of protein.
I do exercise but I am not a hard core exerciser.  I walk on my treadmill 3-4 times a week and if I am motivated I walk 5 days a week.  My usual walks are about 40 minutes long and 2.5 miles.  Now I know I shouldn't be advocating this but I have gone some weeks without any exercise and my weight loss that week was pretty much the same as the weeks I do exercise.  I don't know why this is because in theory this shouldn't be the way it works but it is.

I hope this helped you a little. Please let me know if you have any questions.  I am not at expert at this point as I am only 3 months out but I will help you in any way that I can.

Take care,
