I don't know if I'm craving the carbonation or just the taste of it...

Meet the Surgeon Aug 1, 2011 .... hopefully the surgeons office is right and everything will go fast and I'll have surgery later this month.

I think if you want it so bad, just try it.  You may find like many people that it just doesn't taste the same as you "thought" it would!

I've certainly found that with foods - I'm craving something, decide to make it, make it, and then one taste and it's done!

Thanks for your post.  I've been craving Diet Coke.  Haven't given in, and the posts from others helped, too.

My highest weight was 280, surgery weight was 262, and my weight now is 217.  My goal weight is 130.  87 lbs to go.

5-13-09 update: My cravings for Diet Coke are worse... I've read many things about why not to drink carbonated beverages:
Gas and bloating and cramping.
Dumping.
Ripping staples open.
Empty calories when you need nutrition.
Dehydrating effect of the caffeine.
interference with feeling full.
Possible enlarging of the stoma.

Still I crave.  Help.

I loved the taste of diet pepsi. I had been craving the bite and tingly feeling I got from drinking sodas. They always seemed so refreshing. I took a tiny sip of my husbands soda when we were out. It did not taste good at all. I still liked the bubbly feeling in my mouth but not the taste. When I am thirsty, I still want it. Crystal light is losing its appeal. oh well. I will have to do with the tiniest of sips now and again.

A woman I work with says a friend of hers (male), who had RNY, 2 years ago drinks beer just about every weekend - Michelob light.   Can imagine but she said it doesn't bother him.

I'd just like a small carbonated water.  I may try it on an empty stomach.  I think I was told no carbonation becasue the bubbles expand in your stomach.

I'm there with ya. I've been craving a Ginger Ale or Sierra Mist, but I absolutely won't give in. I found a great recipe for a homemade lemonade on the back of my granular Splenda packet, so I am going to make that with some fresh lemons, limes, and mint leaves... so I feel like I am still getting a "treat" (or more like alcohol-free mojito LOL).

My Dr said I could have no more than two sodas a day IF - I left it open a while to release some bubbles and then poured it over ice to further dilute.  I usually can only drink one per day because I just take tiny, tiny sips at a time.   No harm, no foul.

I was really worried about totally "giving up" diet coke, but now it's become a non-issue.  If I want some, I have a little bit.
