Am I the only one eating Lean Cuisines, Healthy Choice, etc. for lunch at work everyday?

Hi all. My RNY was 12/9/08.  I am eating Lean Cuisines, Smart Ones, etc. for lunch almost every day at work.  If there's something I shouldn't have, like rice, I only eat the chicken and vegetables.  Some of these have, like 20g of protein in them!  I know I need to watch the sodium content, etc. and I know not to eat things like the spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna etc.   But I am keep everything down just fine, the portion size is perfect and I am still losing weight.   Plus, I don't have to make anything for lunch - just nuke a tray.  Am I the only one doing this?

I haven't started back on the Lean Cuisine or WW meals, but I don't think that means you shouldn't. I used to eat those every day at work and sometimes for dinner since my husband works nights. Since surgery I've only had one, for dinner and it was fish, but I didn't eat the starch.  It is a nice portion size and the amt of protein is so good in many of the choices.  I saw South Beach individual pizza meals and got one - 30 G of protein, wow!  Haven't tried it yet.  For lunch I've been bringing mainly soup, or protein bar, something easy that I know will sit ok.

How much have you lost since surgery?  The last week I haven't lost anything, am trying to keep a positive attitude, the weight seems to fall off in  2,3 4 pounds at a time.

I have eaten those since surgery, and done the same thing - avoid the rice/pasta that sometimes is "filler" on those meals.  However, there are some South Beach and other low carb ones that seem to fit in better with our diet restrictions (and even the Lean Cuisines vary widely... many of those have higher protein and lower carbs than others).

But I do like to cook, and because my portion sizes are so small... I find that I eat leftovers for days when I cook from scratch!  So more leftovers = less Lean Cuisines for me.

I only bought the Lean Cuisines, South Beach, Smart Ones, etc. because they were on sale at my supermarket 4 for $10.00 with no limit. So, at $2.50 apiece, I thought "that's great!" I can't buy ingredients for lunch for that here in NYC, much less a HOT lunch. I bought 30.  Hoping for another sale next month :)   Today is cold and snowy and dreary here in NYC. I had a Lean Cuisine Baked Chicken for lunch, and it was great and warm in my tummy and 17g of protein. In an hour, I'll make a protein drink (Nectar Twisted Cherry + 4C Totally Light Lemonade  23g) which I will nurse until 5 PM.   I started the day (as I do every day) with Quaker Oats Weight Control oatmeal (7g protein). At 10 a.m. I had a Mozzarella cheese stick.  For dinner, I'll have a cup of chili and a SF popsicle for dessert later on while watching TV.

I've lost 30 lbs since my RNY on 12/9/08.

Congrats on your 30lbs!  Have you tried making your oatmeal with skim instead of water?  If you use 3/4 C, it'll add like 6g protein I think. (Pretty sure 8g in a cup)  The few times I've made oatmeal, I make it that way, its always way too much for me to eat though.

You should make sure you drink your entire protein drink within 1 hours.  My nutritionist said that they start growing some "funky" bacteria once mixed, and should not be used after being mixed for an hour.  You could try making two smaller glasses.  I know it's hard to get it down within an hour, but please be careful.

That is an excellent idea! I will try it.

I have been eating them but only the protein parts....chicken fish no pastas or rice. I tolerate them just fine, the same with salads and cooked broccoli lol in response to your other post.

I haven't eaten those yet but I was looking at them. I had my surgery on the 22nd so I am just a bit behind y'all anyway. I usually just eat 2 slices of light (sodium and fat) lunch meat and a slice of 2% cheese. I will eat some manderine oranges no sugar added, for a snack. Somewhere in there and in the morning I drink a protein drink that has 42 gms of protein. Breakfast us usually a hardboiled egg with mustard and light mayo or a sm yogurt s/f. Dinner is up for grabs. I try to get protein/meat in but sometimes it is tuna fish or a meatball or italian (turkey)sausage in sauce. I actually had to start adding carbs. I was getting so little that they said that to lose weight my body would start pulling protein from the muscles if I didn't up it a bit. I added the cheese. At least that has protein too. I think I am doing exactly what my papers say to do but it is 6 weeks today and I am minus only 27 lbs. Plus the 20 I lost before surgery but that only counts in my head. I see the nut on Wednesday so I will talk with her then. I have lots of questions.
