I finally feel normal

Well, I am officially normal. I kept wondering why I was having such an easy time of it when it SEEMED like everyone else had struggles. On Thursday night I had some lump immitaion crab meat. I didn't puree it or anything. It got stuck just a bit. Only enough for me to be slightly uncomfortable but it soon passed. On Friday, I ate some more for lunch. It got stuck more. You would think I had learned a lesson. Friday night DH and I went out for the first time to eat with out me bringing my own food. I got grilled fish with fresh veggies cooked soft. I ate small amount of fish with an even smaller amount of veggies. I was having some discomfort as I ate. I was "sore". I stopped and it seemed okay. I was only mildly uncomfortable. Yesterday for lunch I had some left overs. I was in such pain. I mushed it up really good and thought I would be okay. That was not the case. I guess for the next few days I should stay on liquids. I still am sore when I drink but it is not too bad. I don't throw up though. But I think I did bruise myself. ugh

When I had my first stuck problem it was so bad that I called the doctor and was thinking I might have to go to the ER.  Luckily I was wrong and he told me it would just pass.  I threw up a few times.  Now I know you didn't do that, but what the doctor did tell me that may apply is that after you have a stuck episode or vomiting, the pouch/stomach lining can get swollen and you will need time for it to return to normal.  For the next day all I wanted was soup and liquids.  The day after that I felt fine.  So when you have a problem, think about going soft for a day to let you stomach heal.

Of course I'm new to all of this too, but I hope my advice is on target.

Sorry you didn't feel well, but I'm glad you're OK now.

Thanks for the advise. I will take it. I got up this morning and knew I would have nothing other than liquids today. I can feel pain sometimes even when I just swallow my saliva. Drinking liquids is okay with just the tiniest of sips. A bigger sip can be felt and it is uncomfortable. I will take it easy tomorrow and then Tuesday maybe I will try my luck.

Sandra- Sorry you've had a number of yucky episodes with food getting stuck lately. It just stinks, doesn't it!  The one thing I hate about RNY so far is not knowing what's gonna work and what's not. Aside from the owie factor, I don't feel safe trying things at work or in a restraunt that I'm not 100% sure will be ok.  It is nice getting back to regular foods though, isn't it?  I just tried tilapia for the first time EVER last night and it was good, and it didn't get stuck.  Have also had good luck with rotisserie chicken, eaten cold two nights in a row.  I was too afraid to re-heat it for fear of upping the chances of it sticking.

The fish I ate was Tilapia and it was tender and delicious. I ate it slowly. I think it was just because I had already gotten myself messed up with the lump crapmeat. It was worse the next day when I reheated it. Such a shame. Today I have had 10 oz water, 20oz water with protein powder and some frozen strawberries blended in with it. Not bad but I was enjoying actually eating. It is odd really having to decide what to eat. I have never given food this much thought even when it seemed like all I was doing was thinking of eating. Strange.

I bet the fish didn't go well because of the crabmeat episode. Makes you scared to try stuff though, doesn't it?  I know what you mean about spending so much time thinking about what to eat. I'm glad to be able to try regular stuff again though and to have dinner w/ DH.

I know what you mean about food getting stuck. it happened a few times, but i think I continue to eat to fast.usually it is bearable and goes away quickly. The ohter night I had my first and last dumping episode. I ate to fast and to much, was so sick. asoon as I surrounded the porcelain throne I felt better, surprissingly the food stayed down, just a lot of mucous.

I had the same type of thing happen with only throwing up mucus when I ate too fast once before. I did feel better even though no actual food came up.
I only had water, protein shakes and small bit of s/f pudding this evening. I feel pretty good but I didn't want to eat too soon. I will eat tomorrow.
Hey Tom, you work out so maybe you will understand this. I do the treadmill and I work up a sweat. I get thirsty and I do keep my water bottle with me. It seems though that I can't get enough water in me soon enough when I am done. I am sooo thirsty but I can't physically drink enough soon enough. Do you ever encounter this? Maybe I need to really make sure I drink as much as I can all morning long before I go. What do you think?

Yes wen I first started working out. I got really thirsty and couldn't get in enuff water. now I barley touch my water bottle during exercise****aisionally sipping) and constanly sip after or take in a protein shake with in 20 minutes and then sip some more. I try to get in a half a bottle before going.
