Im hungry!!!
I had RNY december 30th. I have been hungry the last few days! UGH! I am on this crappy clear liquid diet for three more weeks! I knew this would be hard but I didnt think I would get hungry this soon, it isnt emotional hunger either, I am hungry, and having hunger pains! It is killing me!? Alls I do is drink water, and slim fast, boost or something of the sort, eat jello and drink broth, I would feel so much better if I could have some substance!
This diet thing gets me, some docs do a liquid diet, some go right to puree, why? My doc says it is bad to go to food, now if it is so bad why are other docs doing it???
Sorry, I had to vent a lil...

I started foods too soon, and my doc explained that when you try to eat food before your stomach has healed and lost its swelling is very prone to getting food stuck. When this happens you feel crappy and won't want to eat for a couple days. You just end up in a cycle that doesn't allow your pouch to heal. I was nauseous for 2 days, and was very happy to move back to liquids and then purees.
I don't think there's a limit on protein shakes if they help you feel fuller.
I also have read a few times that pain from recovering can be mistook for hunger pains, so just be careful.

I only had to be on the liquid diet for a week after surgery, but I went to full liquids a day early. Like you, I was feeling hungry. The thing is, I resumed normal activity within a couple days of surgery. I was out and about and carrying on pretty much as usual... and I felt myself feeling so tired and listless because I wasn't taking in much actual nutrition. I started with a couple tablespoons of cream soup and ate it very slowly over forty minutes. And I was okay. I have had no complications or complaints after surgery, so I felt pretty comfortable going ahead. I certainly don't mean to tell you one way or the other to go against your plan. Just sharing my experience. When I visited the nurse the next day, she thought I had made an okay decision because I have been so active.
You're not on a clear LD if you're able to have SlimFast and Boost. But I digress...
You are staying hydrated right now and that is extremely important and that is probably your surgeon's preference moreso than getting solids in your new pouch. If you are having hunger issues, call your NUT and ask if you can progress to pureed's - or just add one puree to a meal time (i.e. instead of a boost, could you have some thinned out cream of wheat, etc.). There is no fee for calling & asking.
Good luck!

I am on clear liquids other then the boost. This is what he ordered, no soups or anything bu****er broth and jello crystal light and that sorta thing. The boost is for the protein. I had my post op and they wont let me have ANYTHING except what is mentioned above for two more weeks. Then I get full liquids...
You might want to avoid Boost and regular Slim-Fast. They may be too high in sugar. I know my Dr doesn't allow Boost post surgery because it is too sugary. I found when I had a diet that was too surgary (mine was from a lot of fresh fruit), I would be ravenously hungry and nothing seemed to help the hunger. Also, SF jello can cause sugar cravings, since it is sweetened with aspartame (Equal).
Theres nothing else I can drink for protein right now. I dont like the boost because it makes me sick, but he wont let me have anything else right now. I dunno, I think my doc is way stricter then most, and hes kinda giving me a headache! Hes not willing to hear what I have to say, and this reallllllly makes me mad! Everyone keeps telling me it isnt real hunger its emotional, but its not. Im not craving anything just starting to feel hungry! Im very VERY tempted to get some cream of wheat or something to help... Then Id feel like I was cheating, and I know thats not ok...
Just so frustrating!
